Wah Wah
PAGE Jimmy & PLANT Robert Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

From my island home I feel a chance
Kiss the tide, goes time and circumstance
Give me peace of mind and let me dance
Bury all my pain of years beneath the sand

On my heels these wings I gladly wear
Laugh into the face of anger and despair
Give me peace of mind and let me dance
Bury all my pain of years beneath the sand

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in "Wah Wah" by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant seemingly speak about wanting to escape from past traumas and seeking inner peace through dance and connection to nature. The first verse speaks about being on an island and feeling the ebb and flow of the tide, highlighting the unpredictability of life's circumstances. The singer seeks solace and release through dance, burying the pain and problems of life beneath the sand. The second verse speaks about the singer's attitude towards challenges, they choose to wear wings and laugh in the face of anger and despair. This can be interpreted as an act of defiance, choosing to rise above negativity and embrace a positive outlook on life.

The repetition of the phrase "Give me peace of mind and let me dance" highlights the song's central message of finding inner peace through movement and a connection to nature. Burial imagery is also used to signify a letting go of past pains and traumas and to move forward towards a brighter future. The song's title "Wah Wah" could be interpreted as a representation of the cyclical nature of life's ups and downs, alluding to the wah-wah effect often used in music to create a sense of oscillation.

The English is a lyrical achievement on par with anything Led Zepplin ever wrote. Who did the writing, and a translation of the Arabic (?) would be great. I love how both vocal lines have room to exist and interplay.

"From my island home I feel each hand,
Kiss the tired ghosts of time and circumstance."

"On my heels these wings I'll gladly wear,
And laugh into the face of anger and despair."

Beautiful.

Forever yours.
