Page France were an indie folk-pop music band. Their music tends to be emotional and their songs tend to have simple melodies. Page France is sometimes compared to Sufjan Stevens for their use of uncommon instruments such as the glockenspiel and banjo.
The band broke up in 2008. Frontman Michael Nau is now focusing his full attention on Cotton Jones.
The band has been characterized by some as Christian due to a number of references in song lyrics and titles. However, lyricist Nau counters: "The 'Christian band' inquiry wears me out, to be honest. As for the Christian symbols in my writing — sometimes I don’t even realize that they exist until someone points them out to me. There’s really no reason; it just rolled out that way."
The band is a frequent feature on a number of music blogs, notably You Ain't No Picasso.

Hallelujah
You stood too close to the sunset
And it finally outgrew you
So now I paint you on my doorpost
Like I knew you
I make all of the right noises
But they never make it to you
Hallelujah
You're a confused little soldier
And the bullets go right through you
So now I march you to a tin pan
Through the alley
So the death angel understands
That I'm gonna take you afloat
And we will become a happy ending
And we will become a happy ending
I am sinking for the sunset
Hallelujah
You've been deafened by these trumpets
But my love I'll listen for ya
So I can paint you on my doorpost
Like I knew you
I make all of the right noises
But my love they go right through you
And we will become a happy ending
And we will become a happy ending
And we will become a happy ending
And we will become a happy ending
And we will become a happy ending
We will rejoice
Hallelujah
We Will rejoice
Hallelujah
We Will rejoice
Hallelujah
We Will rejoice
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
The lyrics of Page France's "Feather" are ambiguous yet evocative, leaving the listener with a sense of longing and yearning. The opening line "I am blowing for a trumpet, Hallelujah" sets the tone for the rest of the song, as if the singer is calling out for something to happen, to signal the end of something or the start of something new. The following lines, "You stood too close to the sunset and it finally outgrew you," suggest that someone has passed away or personal growth outpaced a relationship. The singer then mentions "paint[ing] you on my doorpost," as a tribute to someone who has passed. The singer goes on to say "I'm as heavy as a feather," which could imply that they feel weighed down by their emotions but are still light enough to move forward.
The lyrics take on a more somber and despondent tone in the next verse where the singer describes another person as "a confused little soldier and the bullets go right through you." This could either be interpreted as a person going through emotional turmoil or someone who has been traumatized by past events. The singer then talks about taking this person to a "tin pan" where the "death angel" can understand, implying some sort of confrontation with the literal or metaphorical embodiment of death. The third verse seems to be an extension of the second, with the singer describing themselves as "sinking for the sunset" and contending that their loved one has been "deafened by these trumpets." The song ends on a hopeful note with the repeated chorus of "we will become a happy ending" and "Hallelujah," suggesting that even in the midst of sadness, there is still hope for a brighter tomorrow.
