1.) Papermoon is a Viennese duo, who had a successful career with quiet music (guitar and vocal), during the 1990s, predominantly in Austria.
The project was founded in 1991 by Christof Straub (guitar) and Edina Thalhammer (vocals). After their song "Night After Night" received frequent airplay on the Austrian radio station Ö3 in 1992, they signed a recording contract. The first album went double platinum with total sales over 100000. Both of the followup albums went gold. The most familiar titles are "Tell Me A Poem" and "Lucy's Eyes." Edina Thalhammer left the group in 1996, for a period of almost seven years, and was replaced by Roumina Straub, and for a short time, by Barbara Pichler. During this time, a maxi-single and a "Best Of" album (with three new titles) were released. Edina Thalhammer attempted a solo career with the project "Tau" in 2002. The original members of Papermoon are back together as of 2004.
After an unsuccessful nomination in 2005 for the album "Come Closer," Papermoon was awarded the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the "Pop/Rock Group" category in 2006 for the album "True Love."
2.) The second "Papermoon" is a rock band from Boston fronted by guitarist David Messier.
Time to Say Goodbye
Papermoon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The party is over
And we won't see you
For a long long time
We stay there alone now
It's getting colder
They turn the lights off
It's time to say goodbye
It's time to say how much
We really love you
It's time to say I won't cry
Cause someday we'll meet again
It's time to go home now
The party's over
We'd like to thank you
We had a wonderful time
Bright days are gone now
We have grown older
The night is colder
Our star still shines
It's time to say goodbye …
The lyrics of Papermoon's song "Time to Say Goodbye" speak about the end of a party and the departure of a loved one. The opening lines set the tone for the song, with the singer acknowledging that it's time to leave and that the party is finished. From the second line, it's clear that the person being spoken to won't be seen for a long time to come, and the lyrics carry a sense of sadness and loss.
The second verse talks about the aftermath of the party as the revellers leave and the singer is left alone with their thoughts. The colder temperatures and the turning off of the lights are juxtaposed against the opening of a bottle of wine, which suggests the singer is coming to terms with their feelings and trying to find solace.
The chorus repeats the song's title phrase, emphasizing the inevitability of the situation and the need to express affection in the face of loss. The reference to not crying suggests the singer is accepting the situation but still holding onto hope that they will one day see their loved one again.
The final verse speaks to the passage of time and the singer's growing sense of nostalgia as they look back on the bright days of the past. The use of the star metaphor suggests that while things may have changed, memories and connections continue to shine on.
