Sur une guitare, sur une violin
Qu'il soit trop tard, qu'il soit trop long
See'est le bout do monde
Refrain
The lyrics of Patricia Kaas's song La Liberte talk about the universal human desire for freedom, which is deeply ingrained in everyone's hearts and souls. The song starts with the line, "On a guitar, on a violin," and talks about how people from different walks of life, from the homeless to immigrants, express their longing for freedom through music, whether it is on the streets, under a bridge, or on an empty drum. The lyrics go on to say that if the truth comes out of the metro, if the whole world says we're too foolish to love too much, or when it's cold and you call for roasted chestnuts, then the homeless person, the immigrant, or the impoverished person, respectively, makes their own song.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the point that freedom is not something that can be easily attained, that it is not just something that can be found next door, but something that is located at the end of the world. Despite all this, however, there is still power in struggling for freedom, in finding your own voice and using it to make your own song.
Overall, the song is telling us that the fight for freedom is a universal struggle that belongs to all people, regardless of their background, and that music is a common language that can be spoken by everyone.
