The band's strength lies in the semantic power of its lyrics, which discuss different topics such as politics, drugs and women, but always from a philosophical and existential point of view. The band represented a counter-cultural paradigm, reinforced and supported by its truly independent production nature.
The band maintained a no-TV contact policy, a very seldom and sparse contact with the press and sporadic radio interviews. However, its music always had and currently maintains significant airplay in argentine radiowaves. Patricio Rey is a fictional character or group consciousness, and not a real person or member of the group.
It is considered as one of the most important bands of argentine rock, and one of the outstanding acts during the end of 1980s and 1990s. Together with Sumo, Soda Stereo and Seru Giran, Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota is considered one of the most influential rock bands of its time.
The song lyrics are characterised by the use of metaphores and multiple possible interpretation. Musically, they are noticeable for their creative use of instruments - including violin, trumpet, piano, harmonica and percussion - on top of their classic lineup of guitar, bass, sax and drums. They have included several musical styles throughout their career, including rock, hard rock, pop rock, rock 'n' roll and blues. They also experimented with samplers and audio games.
El Indio Solari, the lead singer, embodies the one-man-show mystique followed by his powerful guitar player Skay Beilinson. Other members of the group have left the band and have been replaced (drums: Piojo Abalos; saxophone: Willy Crook; guitar: Tito Fargo D'Aviero). The members of the group were reluctant to do any interviews during their career.
The band broke up one year after the release of Momo Sampler, in 2001, but several former members are still active and pursuing solo careers.
The final line-up of the band was:
Indio Solari - voice
Eduardo Skay Beilinson - guitar
Daniel Semilla Bucciarelli - bass guitar
Walter Sidotti - drums
Sergio Dawi - saxophone
Hernán Aramberri - sampler
Carmen Castro a.k.a. "La Negra Poly" - manager
Ricardo Cohen a.k.a. "Rocambole" - artist (as stated in the official site)
Preso en mi ciudad

drácula con tacones:
era un "pop" violento que guió
el gran estilo siniestro.
Ahora ya no llora...
¡Preso en mi ciudad! (¡¡¡ja-ja-ja!!!).
Casi ya no llora,
¡atrapado en libertad!.
Practicamos tiro al pichón
y un test para ir al espacio
con mi delicioso campeón
y el rock como todo llanto
ahora ya no llora...
¡Preso en mi ciudad! (¡¡¡ja-ja-ja!!!).
Casi ya no llora,
¡atrapado en libertad!.
Fue un esclavo sensible y chillón
y fácil para el gatillo
atrapó un beso bien hechor
con ojos al rojo vivo.
Ahora ya no llora
(casi ya no llora...)
The lyrics of "Preso en mi ciudad" by Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota tell a tale of a man who feels trapped in his own city, with references to past romantic encounters and fun activities. The song begins with the singer stating that they once had sex with a "Dracula with heels," referring to a woman who was likely goth or punk in style. The encounter is described as a "violent pop" that led to a "great sinister style." However, the singer remarks that the woman no longer cries, while they remain "trapped in their city."
The second verse describes more activities shared between the singer and a friend, including shooting clay pigeons and taking a test to go to space. They refer to their friend as a "delicious champion," perhaps indicating a close relationship or admiration. Again, the singer laments their own situation, feeling stuck in their city while their friend is able to move beyond it.
The final lines mention a "sensitive and whiny slave" who is "easy for the trigger." This may refer to a past relationship or romance that ended badly for the singer. They reference a "magical kiss" that was shared, but ultimately they remain trapped in their city and unable to move beyond their past.
Overall, the song seems to convey a feeling of being trapped and stuck in one place, unable to move past past experiences or relationships. The references to fun activities and past romances seem to contrast with the overall mood of the song, evoking a sense of nostalgia and longing for freedom.
