In 1974 and 1975, she recorded for Avco Records, and, in 1981, recorded for Plantation Records, her most recent record label. Page's most recent single to appear on any Billboard chart was the 1982 #80 country single, "My Man Friday". (She last appeared on the pop chart in 1968, with her version of O.C. Smith's hit, "Little Green Apples", and on the Adult Contemporary chart with "Give Him Love" in 1971.)
Page made the country chart in up to 1983, with her biggest hit during that time being "Hello, We're Lonely," a 1973 #14 duet with Tom T. Hall.
In the 1990s, Page started her own label, C.A.F. Records. In 1998, she won a Grammy as "Best Traditional Pop Singer". Page continued to record into the new millenium with the CDs BRAND NEW TENNESSEE WALTZ, SWEET SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS (2002), CHILD OF MINE (2003) and her last 2009 release BEST OF COUNTRY. Many of her songs have a strong beat to them that prelude rock 'n' roll. These titles include "Mister and Mississippi", "Detour" and "Cross Over the Bridge". In 1956, she married choreographer Charles O'Curran. They adopted two children, a daughter, Kathleen, and a son, Daniel O'Curran.
The Nearness of You
Patti Page Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That thrills and delights me
Oh no, it's just the nearness of you
It isn′t your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation
Oh no, it's just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
I need no soft lights to enchant me11
If you will only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
I need no soft lights to enchant me11
If you will only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
In Patti Page's song "The Nearness of You," the lyrics express the overwhelming power of physical proximity and emotional connection. The singer begins by dismissing external factors like the pale moon or sweet conversation as the source of their excitement and delight. Instead, they attribute their feelings to simply being near the person they love. The physical closeness creates a profound sensation within the singer, one that surpasses any other form of stimulation.
The lyrics further emphasize the significance of physical proximity by depicting an intimate moment when the person they love is in their arms, and the singer can feel their presence so intensely. This closeness fulfills the singer's deepest desires and makes their wildest dreams come true. It signifies the fulfillment of a longing that can only be achieved through the physical closeness and emotional connection shared.
The singer emphasizes that they do not need any external enhancements, such as soft lights, to enhance their feelings. They only seek the opportunity to tightly hold the person they love and experience their presence in the night. The "nearness" of this person is enough to bring immense happiness and fulfillment to the singer.
Overall, the lyrics of "The Nearness of You" explore the transformative power of physical closeness and emotional connection. They convey a longing for intimacy and the belief that being near the person one loves can bring ultimate happiness and fulfillment. The song highlights the profound impact that the nearness of someone special can have on one's life, surpassing any external factors that may typically induce happiness.

I always liked her music, too, Carol. Thanks so much for listening to this one! I only drove through Oklahoma once so I don't know much about it. I do love the musical film, with Gordon MacRae and the lovely Shirley Jones. I remember a lot of corn :)) Take care.
