Sir James Paul McCartney, MBE (born 18 June 1942 - Liverpool, England) is a British singer, musician and songwriter, who first came to prominence as a member of The Beatles. Linda McCartney established herself as a professional photographer in the rock and roll scene, and met her second husband, Paul McCartney, while photographing groups for a book titled Rock and Other Four Letter Words in 1967. They met at a night club called the Bag o' Nails in May of 1967 and married in 1969. After the breakup of the The Beatles in 1970, Paul began teaching Linda to play keyboards, and included her in the lineup for his new band, Wings. Although Linda was shunned by music critics for her amateur singing and playing skills, Wings garnered several Grammy Awards for their music, and became one of the most successful bands of the 1970s.

Yes we was lonely
And we was hard pressed to find a smile
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
But now were fine all the while
I used to ride on my fast city line
Now let me lie with my love for the time
I am home (home), home (home), home
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
And we was hard pressed to find a smile
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
But now were fine all the while
Now let me lie with my love for the time
I am home (home), home (home), home
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
And we was hard pressed to find a smile
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
But now were fine all the while
But now were fine all the while
But now were fine all the while
The lyrics to Paul & Linda McCartney's song "Man We Was Lonely" describe the feeling of loneliness that the singer and his loved ones experienced before finding happiness together. The repetition of the phrase "Man we was lonely" emphasizes how strongly they felt that way, and the second line of each verse - "And we was hard pressed to find a smile" - reinforces the idea that they were struggling emotionally. However, as the song progresses, the singer reveals that they have overcome their loneliness and are now "fine all the while". The image of the singer riding on a fast city line and singing songs alone suggests that he was searching for something or someone to connect with, and ultimately found that connection in his love.
