Have a Good Time
Paul Simon Lyrics

Yesterday it was my birthday
I hung one more year on the line
I should be depressed
My life's a mess
But I'm having a good time

I've been loving and loving
And loving
I'm exhausted from loving so well
I should go to bed
But a voice in my head
Says â??Ah, What the hellâ??

Have a good time

Paranoia strikes deep in the heartland
But I think it's all overdone
Exaggerating this exaggerating that
They don't have no fun

I don't believe what I read in the papers
They're just out to capture my dime
I ain't worrying
And I ain't scurrying
I'm having a good time

Have a good time

Maybe I'm laughing my way to disaster
Maybe my race has been run
Maybe I'm blind
To the fate of mankind
But what can be done?

So God bless the goods we was given
And God bless the U. S. of A.
And God bless the standard of livin'
Let's keep it that way
And we'll all have a good time

Have a good time

Who is listening to this in 2020 during the C-19 pandemic?

Worse than ever with the Paranoia.

The saxophone solo at the end is great.  That's Phil Woods,  I recognize him.  I studied under him in Canoga Park, CA.  He was  a great musician,  a great lead alto player and did it all, with his skills and original genius.  I want to give him credit.

Thomas Taksa

@Lawrence Muller I play a little clarinet also and wrote 13 tunes that I put on my own playlist on you tube. You said a profound thing. I relate with what you said. I don't wish to participate in competition. It doesn't pay to compare with others in my opinion. I'm sure you play well with that attitude.  I like to hear people play that I haven't heard. I'd like to hear you play too.  I don't judge.

Lawrence Muller

I like the stories you are telling. I played alto and soprano for a long time but switched to baritone. There is less competition... And you, alto plus another saxophone ?

Thomas Taksa

@Lawrence Muller I heard the European Rhythm Machine at Shelly's Manhole in the early 70's with my cousin. That was excellent. I only heard him on records with Tom Harrel. I did hear the interview of his 1st meeting with Charlie Parker when he went across the street to hear him and had his horn with him. I have his traveling gig bag; I mean alto case. It was in storage at a music store. Joe Lopes gave it to me. I asked Phil Woods if I can continue to keep it. He said to keep it and that a saxophone could use a warm bed. He had a good sense of humor. Do you play alto or tenor?

Lawrence Muller

@Thomas Taksa The first time I saw him was with his European Rythm Machine, in Brussels. It was unbelievable. I saw him many times after that, with different groups, uncluding one with Tom Harrel. His playing was beyond words. Have you seen the video on YouTube in which he recounts his first meeting with Charlie Parker ? PS : I play the saxophone.

Thomas Taksa

@Lawrence Muller I like the internet for a lot of reasons. It's good to hear from someone who expresses an appreciation of one of the very good ones who contributed so much to music. He played piano very well and played the harmony parts and opened my mind to various aspects of music. He knew music. It sounds like you do also. Tom
