You Can Call Me Al
Paul Simon Lyrics

A man walks down the street
He says, "Why am I soft in the middle, now?
Why am I soft in the middle?
The rest of my life is so hard
I need a photo-opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
Don't want to end up a cartoon
In a cartoon graveyard"
Bonedigger, Bonedigger
Dogs in the moonlight
Far away in my well-lit door
Mr. Beerbelly, Beerbelly
Get these mutts away from me
You know, I don't find this stuff amusing anymore

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al

A man walks down the street
He says, "Why am I short of attention?
Got a short little span of attention
And, whoa, my nights are so long
Where's my wife and family?
What if I die here?
Who'll be my role model
Now that my role model is gone, gone?"
He ducked back down the alley
With some roly-poly little bat-faced girl
All along, along
There were incidents and accidents
There were hints and allegations

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al
Call me Al

A man walks down the street
It's a street in a strange world
Maybe it's the third world
Maybe it's his first time around
Doesn't speak the language
He holds no currency
He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound, the sound
Cattle in the marketplace
Scatterings and orphanages
He looks around, around
He sees angels in the architecture
Spinning in infinity
He says, "Amen and Hallelujah!"

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al
Call me

Na na na na, na na na na
Na na na na, na na na-na na-na
Na na na na, na-na na-na na na
Na na na na, na na na na

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can call you Betty
If you'll be my bodyguard
I can call you Betty
If you'll be my bodyguard

what do you think happens after you die? do you think you're a good enough person morally speaking in order to enter into heaven and avoid hell?let's see if you are!

how many lies have u told before in your whole entire life? that is: how many fibs, or exaggerations, or White Lies have you told before in your whole entire life? have you ever stolen anything before irrespective of its value? that is: have you ever borrowed something and not returned it? have u ever downloaded music or movies illegally that you didn't pay for? have you ever stolen Razors, Infant Formula, Designer Handbags, Laundry Detergent, Cigarettes, High-end Liquor, Jewelry, or Teeth Whitening Strips from a retail store before? have you ever had sex outside of marriage? have you ever even looked with lust upon another person with sexual thoughts? have you ever masturbated or looked at pornography before? have you ever hated anyone before or strongly disliked someone? have you ever used God's name in vain before? have you ever lusted after material possessions or money b4?

(*If*) you have committed these sins and transgressions...God sees you as a liar and a thief and an adulterer and a fornicator and a blasphemer and a hater at heart and you must face God on Judgement Day! will you be innocent or guilty on the day of judgement? will you go to heaven or to hell?

Revelation 21 says all liars will have their part in the Lake of Fire which is the second death...the Holy Bible declares that "No thief and no adulterer and no blasphemer and no fornicator and no hater and no masturbator and no lustful person by any means shall inherit the Kingdom of Heaven!"....1 Corinthians 6

you have broken God's perfect holy laws and you deserve Everlasting torment in Hell forever!however, Jesus Christ has paid your fine with his own sinless blood...(IF) you repent and turn from all sin and Trust alone in Christ; God will forgive every sin you have ever committed, and Grant you the free gift of everlasting life!

(IF) you refuse to repent and turn from sin and trust in Jesus Christ, then you must pay for your own sins against God yourself on the day of judgement!!

Gone gone?"

So if no one is going to ask I will whose mind did this come from there are so many questions here.
Why Choose Chevy Chase for a music video when hes an Actor and is twice the height of this dude.
WHY ARE THEY IN A PINK ROOM? WHERE DID THIS ROOM COME FROM WHY IS BABY PINK?
Why are there lawn furniture chairs in a pink room? Why is the short guy bringing in all these instruments
that they arent even playing? Why is Chevy Chase pretending that Bongo drum holder is a coffee table and dropping things through it.
WHERE DID THE GLASS OF WATER EVEN GO WHEN IT FELL IT JUST DISAPPEARS...
Why is a man walking down the street in this song asking someone can be his body guard but naming them Betty? Knowing most body guards are male?
Anyway those are the questions that come to mind but I love the song and listen to it often and have watched this video many times without ever commenting
and I have no idea who the people in the comments are talking about.

Yeah, most people are lazy and try to shorten four-syllable names.

Paul Simon wrote this song about his first marriage with Peggy Harper. A French composer, Pierre Boulez, misunderstood their names and called them Betty and Al instead of Peggy and Paul. True story.

TeejayeSkye High

That makes this song that much greater.!

@Connor Gordon because most rockstars were on it and actually touring is extremely draining and taxes your energy and strength
