Pennywise
Pennywise Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Clear your mind hide your fear
Don't look around
Don't turn around
Pennywise is here
Evil lurks in his eyes
The clown they call pennywise
He's a monster
He's not human
He's more than just a figment of your imagination
You can't run can't hide
There's no way to escape pennywise
He'll creep inside your soul at night
And torment nice and slow
Don't turn around or look around
Pennywise will know
He'll make you wish that you were dead
And make it hard to cope

He'll make you wish that you were dead
And hanging by a rope

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Pennywise by the punk rock band of the same name are about the terrifying clown character from the Stephen King novel and film adaptation of IT. The song's lyrics describe the intense fear and dread that Pennywise instills in his victims, as he is more than just a simple creature, but instead a monster that is seemingly impossible to escape. The singer warns the listener not to look back or else Pennywise will know, speaking to the inability of his victims to escape or outrun him.

The lyrics contain vivid imagery of evil lurking in Pennywise's eyes and the sense of impending doom he causes. This sense of impending doom is further emphasized through the repetition of the lines "he'll make you wish that you were dead and make it hard to cope." The message of the song is clear: Pennywise is a monster that cannot be defeated easily, and once he has his eye on you, he will slowly torture you until you wish for death.

I am so lucky i grew up in the 80s/90s. I saw these guys when they first came out. The best show ive seen. The stage was 3 ft high, no bouncers, everyone was getting on stage and diving off. Sucks getting old kids, it will be over before you know it so make sure you enjoy it while you can.
