The lyrics of Pete Rodriguez's song El Hueso describe the singer's possessive behavior towards his belongings, comparing himself to a dog that fiercely guards its bone while enjoying all the meat for himself. The repeated refrain of "Hueso para los perros, toda la carne pa' mí" (Bone for the dogs, all the meat for me) emphasizes this idea of selfishness over and over again. The phrase "así soy con las cosas que pertenecen a mí" (that's how I am with the things that belong to me) suggests that this possessiveness extends beyond just material possessions but to his identity as a whole.
One can interpret this song as a commentary on the powerful human desire to claim and control things, and the negative impact this can have on interpersonal relationships. The comparison to a dog guarding its bone implies that such behavior is primal and instinctive, rather than conscious and rational. The song urges listeners to reflect on their own possessive tendencies and consider how they may be impacting those around them.
