My mom suffered from alcoholism when I was growing up and we went to a Pink Floyd light show together. It was one of the few days she didn't have a drink. I still remember it like it was yesterday. She was so happy that day.. just me and her enjoying the music we grew up on. She always told me this song would come on the radio when she was sleeping as a kid and scare the shit out of her. We had lots of issues afterwards due to her addiction and there were even a few years when we wouldn't speak. I couldn't listen to Floyd anymore because I missed that one memory so much. In December 2020 I watched her die as the effects of alcohol abuse and cancer finally took its toll.. On the plane ride to her I listened to her favorite songs on repeat. Crying. I held her hand over the next couple of days while she died and played them for her. Her body had shut down so she was basically just asleep until the end, but I still talked with to her about how much fun we had that night. I listen to this song (and a couple other Pink Floyd songs) every week and cry on my way home from work. I don't even need to explain why... I just miss her.
I remember when I was a kid taking naps with her and suddenly i'm 30 years old and I will never see her again. Where does the time go.... =/ ='(

My deep condolences. My dad died at 50 last February. Alcoholism is the big thing that did him in so early. Liver failure and an infection his body couldn’t fight because of it. It was like medical checkmate. It’s taken me a little while but I try and remember the happy stuff. He was my best friend and I wish he could have pulled himself out of his depression. But ultimately that’s something only you yourself can do when it hits you. But oh my goodness could we spend a day just laughing at something so stupid…like our favorite thing was on the news when the anchors or weather people would flub lines or mix up their words. Shit would have us in stitches😂. And definitely music. I used to play my guitar for him for hrs and he loved to sing. Anyways, I’m glad that you have such a great memory to hold onto. Most people aren’t so lucky. God bless

Bless you 🙏🏼❤️ I feel your pain only in a slightly different way. This music reminds me of my father when I was a kid he would play it all the time, not knowing it was a seed that was being planted. Now I have so much appreciation for classic rock in general and every time I hear it I think of him. He died when I was 22 and am now 30. Time is a strange thing. I wish it wouldn’t go so fast and I wish we could rewind back to those great memories when the good old days existed.

Just found out my friend and college roommate died of cancer this past weekend. He was only 50. And if you think 50 is old, I promise that one day you won’t.

I'm 44 years old. Pink Floyd has been my favorite band since well, forever because I grew up listening to them. I'm in recovery from addiction and I remember being 17 and getting involved with heroin. The meaning of this song resonated with me all those years ago as a warning of sorts...play around now, you have time as long as you get it together in a few years. Well, 1997 to 2021 flew by and I'm finally in recovery now since 8/30/21 and the meaning of this song is so sad to me because all those years FLEW BY. I lost custody of my 18 y/o daughter during those years when she was 2 y/o and all I can do at this point is hope and pray that someday she'll want to know her mom. I lost contact with my family for many years and my parents are old now and I feel like no matter how bad I wanna get high sometimes, I just know that if I do, another 10 will go by in an instant and I want whatever years I have left the people I love and neglected for decades. I 100% cannot listen to this song without crying because I think of the 17 year old me thinking I had all the time in the world to get it together not knowing that I wasn't going to have that choice because there's no choice in addiction once you're addicted. So here I am all these years later listening to this same song but it has a different meaning to me now.

at 17 i was into weed , magic mushrooms and lsd , i could so easily have continued down that path to much stronger drugs , but i lost a very good mate due to a brain haemorage , no one knew what caused it but the suggestion it could have been drug related made me realise i needed to step back from the path i was on , i'm 61 now and enjoying it , you've taken the first step Jackie , stay strong for your families sake and do your best to get through it , i still think about my mate and what could have been whenever i listen to Floyd , one of his favourite bands .

I knew a man named Tom Henry in Virginia. Knew him since I was a little kid. He had emphysema. It remember playing this song on guitar with him when I was 16. When I got to the line "shorter of breath, one step closer to death" I realized he was crying. Been listening to this song all my life, and only now at 22 have I realised what this song truly feels like. Life has just hit this stage for me.
Every week feels like one long day of light and dark. I can't keep up with time anymore, I can barely tell what day of the week it is. This song literally changed my life. I was drinking almost every day and could not control myself. And one night on the way home from work telling myself I need to quit, I would always say this last time I will do it tomorrow, this song came on and it spoke directly to me. I quit drinking that night and have not had a drop since. Truly a great song with much wisdom in it. There is no time to waste if you want to do something do it now. I spend almost all my time self-educating and learning because there is no time to kill today and I already killed 28 years of my life on drugs and alcohol and being ignorant. No more. The older you get the more this song's meaning and lyrics become clearer. I was introduced to Floyd by my best friend back in 90. i was 19. I understood the meaning of the lyrics back then. We all grow old, and time just escapes us. Now in 2023 at 50, my friend is gone, taken by cancer when he was 40, both my parents and most of my aunt and uncles gone. A failed marriage and now a very good marriage. And it still seems like yesterday i first listen to this song.

This is the best song by Pink Floyd and maybe the best I’ve ever heard. As a 17 year old I’ve still got time but I’m trying to spend it meaningfully and not waste it. ✌️

I was 17 the first time I ever heard this song and it hit me so hard even though I was so young. The line in the song that really got me was “You are young and life is Long and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No-one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.”
Those words are still relevant today. I don’t know exactly why it touched me so much but it’s so true. I’m 65 years old now and I can still remember the way this song made me feel when I was 17.

I was a teenager when I heard this song and I could relate to it as a child. I was deep even as a teen. I knew exactly what it meant and because of that, I love Pink Floyd. They were my spiritual guides and people I turned to. Welcome to The Machine reminded me of high school and Animals was everything to me. Dogs, Sheep, all of it. I understood their songs and felt exactly what they were singing about. I am now in my 50's and I feel like my God, this is so unbelievably true. I Listen to time by pink Floyd, and I remembered we aren't promised tomorrow and the Time we spend with loved ones and friends should be cherished. I listened to this song as the rain fell today, my dad came home with an alarm clock for me tonight, and all I did was sit and stared, an held it for some time and appreciating this clock, and the fact he cares enough to know I get up on time.

I can relate I'm 36 and don't know what the hell happened 😂 After checking out a bunch of historic sites near my home here I'm South Carolina this song has my mind ticking like a clock. I really respect all my ancestors that came before me and hope the best for all those that come after me. I can only hope at least one person will have the reverence i do for those who came before and had the same hopes and dreams and love we do and hope the next generations after us will feel the same way. I’ll be honest, I never really got into Pink Floyd as a kid. They checked all the boxes of a band I’d like, but just never listened to them. Fast forward to age 19… I was a cook at a TGIFridays, and they had this two awesome playlist channels they’d always play. This song was on one, and Comfortably Numb was on the other. I grew to love those two songs, and ended up becoming a big Pink Floyd fan! Excellent band!
