What I See
Planet P Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I see a planet that's glowing red
I see the millions burning in their beds
I see the beauty that might have been
Torn from the future by hungry men
I have the same dream every night
I wake up shaking in the morning light
I don't know what could be expected of me
I only know that I believe what I see
And you, do you see what I see
Yeah you, do you see what I see

This isn't quite the way I thought it would be
It seems they want to make a symbol of me
I have the power that can keep us alive
It's a sugar coated pill and it's bitter inside
I have the same dream every night
I wake up shaking in the morning light
I don't know what could be expected of me
I only know that I believe what I see

And you, do you see what I see
Yeah you, do you see what I see

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Planet P's song "What I See" paint a bleak picture of a dystopian world. In the first verse, the singer describes a planet that is "glowing red" - perhaps a reference to environmental destruction - and the millions of people who are "burning in their beds." This image is contrasted with the "beauty that might have been" but has been destroyed by "hungry men" who prioritize their own greed over the welfare of the planet.

In the second verse, the singer reflects on their own power and the pressure that comes with it. They have the ability to keep their community alive, but the solution is a "sugar coated pill" that is "bitter inside." This can be interpreted as a commentary on the nature of power - that it often comes at a cost, or requires people to make difficult choices.

The repeated lyrics, "I have the same dream every night / I wake up shaking in the morning light / I don't know what could be expected of me / I only know that I believe what I see," suggest that the singer feels overwhelmed by the enormity of the world's problems, but is determined to act on what they observe.

Overall, "What I See" is a song about a world in crisis, and an individual who is struggling to make a difference. It critiques the greed and selfishness of some humans, while also acknowledging the complexity and challenges of creating positive change.
