The name, Poets of the Fall, comes from the idea that two opposites form a whole, ie. there isn't one without the other. "Poets" here represent the positive side and "the Fall" the negative. Of course, when you join these two concepts, the "Poets" starts to sound just a tad mischievious as well... depends, of course, on how you perceive "the Fall". You might see it as a beautiful crisp season and the "Poets" are its insightful architects...
Among many others, the trio has received the following awards:
* Best Finnish Act at MTV Europe Music Awards 2006
* Best Finnish Music Video of all time in TV2's Musiikki-TV; two bronze Muuvi Awards and Best Music Video of 2006 at The Voice (video Carnival of Rust)
* Two Emma Awards (the Finnish Grammys) in 2005 - the best debut album and the best new act

You're still
Poets of the Fall Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I see winter's broken like lace, in time for a celebration
Thaw wails inside the walls and laughs in the corners, delighting in its evident victory
Till I feel springtime counting its days of flaunting a novel sensation
Like it's leaving, leaving behind the weight vying for yesteryear
Leaving promises in its wake, whispering, my love, you're still here
Hold on to your memories of sundogs and rainbows, as time writes a premature eulogy
And I feel summertime passing in haste, like running out of patience
Quilted with knit and umbrellas and scarfs and a mild understanding of irony
I feel autumn leaving the race, all done with the exhilaration
It's leaving, leaving behind the weight vying for yesteryear
Leaving promises in its wake, whispering, my love, you're still here
Mercury dances in its skyscraper cell, rising and falling in harmony
And I feel winter stealing my days, to herald another creation
The lyrics of Poets of the Fall's song "You're Still Here" are filled with vivid and enchanting metaphors that speak to the cyclical nature of life and the perseverance of memories. The opening verse references the planet Mercury, which dances like rhapsody in its "skyscraper cell." This could be interpreted as a metaphor for the movements of the cosmos and the way that time flows like music, rising and falling with a natural beauty. The mention of winter being broken like lace could represent the fragility of life and the way that time can unravel even the most intricate and delicate things. However, there is still a reason for celebration, as even though things may seem to crumble away, new beginnings emerge.
The following verses continue this theme, with thaw wailing and laughing in the corners, symbolizing the return of spring and the joy that comes with it. Summer and autumn are similarly depicted, with memories of rainbows and scarves evoking the passage of time and the way that different seasons bring different memories. Ultimately, the chorus repeats the same message - that despite the weight and promises of the past, love endures and persists.
Overall, "You're Still Here" is a song about resilience and the way that even though time may seem to tear things apart, there is always a thread of connection that persists. It is a reminder that memories and love are immortal, and that even as time flows and seasons change, they stay with us.
