The band was formed by Olson and Leaneagh following their involvement in the soft rock supergroup Gayngs. Their debut album, Give You the Ghost, was released on February 14,2012, and received praise from critics; including Grammy winner band Bon Iver's founder Justin Vernon, who told Rolling Stone: "They're the best band I've ever heard." Four singles were released from the album including, "Dark Star", which peaked at no. 2 on BEL (Vl) [Ultratip].
The band released their second album, Shulamith on October 18,2013, and it reached a peak position at no. 47 on BEL (VI) just like their debut. It also charted at no. 1 on US Heatseekers Albums. In April 2013 they released the single "Tiff (feat. Justin Vernon)", followed by second single "Chain My Name" in October, 2013.
Scrobbling note: does not tend to scrobble with or without the inclusion of the cedilla, which is how the band is (accurately) represented on Spotify.

The lyrics of Poliça's song "Violent Games" are full of strong, evocative imagery that reflects the dark, tumultuous emotions of the singer. The repetition of the phrase "Tremble tremble at the taste of" creates a sense of trembling anticipation, as though the singer is on the cusp of something intense and dangerous. The words "In his hands" add to this feeling of vulnerability and surrender, implying that the singer is in some way at the mercy of another person.
The chorus of the song reveals more about the singer's situation, suggesting that they have been involved in a violent game of some kind. The lyrics "Stole but I still remain" suggest that something has been taken from the singer, but they have somehow managed to survive and continue on. The line "Man, be my enemy, oh but he knows my needs" adds another layer of complexity to the situation, as it implies that the singer might be willingly participating in this violent game, or that they have some kind of complicated relationship with the person who is causing them harm.
Overall, "Violent Games" is a powerful and raw song that explores the ways in which human beings can be both vulnerable and resilient in the face of violence and trauma.
