I Remember That
Prefab Sprout Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nothing sounds as good as "I Remember That"
Like a bolt out from the blue, did you feel it too?
I remember that

Name me one little thing, you'll be wanting to keep
As you give up the ghost as you sink into sleep
Maybe her face in the morning, maybe his in the evening
Maybe words never spoken, aren't they the ones worth hearin'?
Say I remember that

Nothing sounds as good as "I Remember That"
Like a bolt out from the blue, did you feel it too?
I remember that
Nothing sounds as good as "I Remember That"
Like a bolt out from the blue, did you feel it too?
I remember that

'Cause that's all we can have, yes it's all we can trust
It's a hell of a ride but a journey to dust
And there's nothing pathetic listing clothes she'd wear
If it proves that I had you, if it proves I was there
Say I remember that

Nothing sounds as good as "I Remember That"
Like a bolt out from the blue, did you feel it too?
I remember that
Nothing sounds as good as "I Remember That"
Like a bolt out from the blue, did you feel it too?
I remember that

Did you feel it too?... I remember that
Did you feel it too?... I remember that...

Overall Meaning

In "I Remember That," Prefab Sprout captures the fleeting yet powerful nature of memory. The song establishes an air of nostalgia right at the outset, as the singer professes that "nothing sounds as good as ‘I remember that.’" The song's central message is that memories are all we have, and they are the only things we can trust in a world of fleeting moments and transient experiences.

The song's verses ask us to consider what we hold dearest in our memories as we prepare to let go of this life. The singer offers a range of options, from the memory of a lover's face at different times of day to the unspoken words that still resonate in our minds long after the moment has passed. Regardless of what we choose to remember, the song suggests that "I remember that" is the one phrase that resonates the most.

The song's chorus reinforces this theme, urging listeners to remember that feeling they had when they first experienced something unexpected or thrilling. Like a bolt out of the blue, those moments can jolt us out of our routine and into a spontaneous sense of joy. "Did you feel it too?" the song asks, reminding us that we are not alone in our memories; someone else may hold the same spark of joy that we do.

Overall, "I Remember That" is a poignant reminder of the power of memory, of the moments that define our lives and the emotions that we hold onto long after those moments have come and gone.

SEA BLUE FILMS

Only 5577 subscribers ? truly shocking as Prefab Sprout are probably the greatest band ever since The Beatles !

SEA BLUE FILMS

@Placebo_yue You spoke too soon m8

BilisNegra

Nearly 32K now in late '21, which is a tad better, but yees, far from what they deserve. That said, views matter more than subscribers in music videos, people don't feel the same urge to subscribe with soulless official music channels that are even often almost automatically created than they would with actual content creators.

Placebo_yue

well.. they're probably not gonna be releasing anything anytime soon so people wouldn't be too excited about following them. Or him, since it's only Paddy now.

Lorraine Quaye

Brilliant band, never get tired of their songs

Vince Clancy

Well, they definitely were great! It doesn't matter who is the most popular on any list; if you think they're the greatest, that's all that matters to you. I love the music and the lyrics, for sure; they were a class act!
