Interview With Me!
Prince Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This might seem strange
Since so much time has passed
And since only one of us
Still looks the same
Your words not mine, baby
You're still fine yes you are
Like wine, you get better with time
So young and so naive
That I never once believed
That the memory of you would go through
Like wind goes through the trees

Maybe if you believe baby
That I would no deceive you
You and I side by side or somewhere
In between

I don't know if this is a bore
But I just can no longer ignore
This fact so sublime
You get better with time

Anyone who's met you agrees
That no one forgets you most of all not me
You can claim you're humble and hide
But when it's true my dear
It's not pride

A jury of my peers would find me
Guilty of so many crimes
If I chose not to remind you
That you get better with time

This might seem absurd
To someone so cultured
And to one who would grace any stage

When the hair that frames that face
Dark brown or silvery lace

What is age but a cage? Never mind
You'll be blind to not know that you get better with time

Overall Meaning

The song, "Interview With Me" by Prince is a nostalgic and reflective piece that sheds light on the power of nostalgia and recognition. The song features an individual who is awestruck at the fact that the memory of someone can still be so vivid and come with the wind, even after so much time has passed. The lyrics are open to interpretation, but it is possible that the song reflects Prince's own personal journey of reflection and the revisit of relationships from the past.

Throughout the song, Prince delivers his lines with an air of melancholy that is both beautiful and profound. The repeated refrain, "You get better with time," is a testament to how much the singer values the person being addressed, and how much they believe they have matured over the years. The song highlights the beauty of aging and how the experience of life can only improve us as individuals.

Overall, "Interview With Me" is a song that emphasizes the importance of recognizing the growth of others, and the beauty of aging. It is a beautiful tribute to those individuals who have made a profound impact on our lives.

Here's a Prince story: A guy I know was in a restaurant and noticed Prince, not wanting to bother him for an autograph he asked a waiter to tell Prince that he would pay for his meal, the waiter came back and said Prince said thank you- but no thanks. Prince shortly left. When the bill came for his own meal the waiter told him it was already paid for by Prince. What a low key class move. RIP Legend.

One of the greatest electric guitarists of all time. God he could shred. I remember the day he passed and everyone I knew was mourning him. I love when the whole town of Minneapolis was colored purple during the Super Bowl halftime tribute to Prince. Awesome. Game. Blouses.
