Based in the musical epicenter of Cali, Colombia since 2007, Holland has been exploring cumbias, salsa and Afro-Colombian music through his particular beat-focused, electronic and funk lens. His latest live band project, Quantic y Su Combo Barbaro, a carefully assembled international cast of musical creators including virtuosic salsa pianist Alfredo Linares and Pacific folklore singer Nidia Gongora, is a bold snapshot of an ever-evolving musical landscape in the Americas. Holland also works and exchanges with a cross-section of artists and producers innovatively shaping contemporary music from Latin America as we speak.
His is an on-going story of musical inspiration guided by a curiosity which aims to not only honor and collaborate with excellent artists, but to share and compose new music in a way that is organic, vibrant and relevant. As Holland explains, "I try to make music that encourages people to explore beyond their usual listening circles and check scenes and genres they may otherwise never be exposed to."
"He’s at the forefront of a new global sound.”- Gilles Peterson, BBC Radio 1
You Used to Love Me

Watch it fly like rain
'Cause while we′re going down, maybe it'll lift us out
If it's all in the river today
Let′s go down to the waterfall now
Watch it drift away
′Cause all the small things becomin' the real things
I think that we′re losing ourselves today
You used to love me
Let's go down to the lady in red
See what she′s gotta say
Let her read all the crystals to me
Never been one to believe
But when all the small things becomin' the real things
I think that we′re losing our sense to see
And it's all around me
Your face and your memory
I think we should be losin' ourselves today
You used to love me (Ahh-ahh)
You used to love me (Ahh-ahh)
And now you′re just runnin′ away, hey, hey, hey
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
Moonlight, late night phone calls
You call me up to wonder, wonder why I don't try
What happened to the sunshine? I′m out of my mind
You leave me here to wonder
Why, why, why
You used to love me
You used to love me
And now you're just running away
′Cause all the small things becomin' the real things
We′re losin' ourselves today
You used to love me
We're losin′ ourselves today
You used to love me
We′re losin' ourselves today
Let′s go down to the river tonight
Watch it fly like rain
'Cause while we′re going down, maybe it'll lift us out
If it′s all in the river today
You used to love me
You used to love me
And now you're just running away
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
The lyrics of Quantic's "You Used to Love Me" are melancholic and speak of a loss of love and a sense of disconnect between the two people who were once in love. The song starts with an invitation to go down to the river and watch it flow like rain. It's as if the person singing the song is trying to recapture the magic they once shared with their lover by going back to the past. There seems to be a hope that going back to where it all began may help bring back the love that they felt before.
As the song unfolds, the lyrics expand on the idea that the small things that once made their love special have become big things, which may be responsible for their loss of affection. The reference to the lady in red and the crystals is ambiguous, but it suggests that the singer is looking for some external guidance or reassurance regarding their relationship. They are looking for a sign that their love is worth fighting for, but they are also struggling to see things as they did before. There is a feeling of desperation that runs throughout the song, and it culminates in the chorus where the singer repeats, "you used to love me" multiple times, as if trying to convince their lover of the love that once was.
The last verse of the song brings the loss of love into sharper relief. The moonlight and late-night phone calls suggest that the couple is trying to work through their issues, but the singer is still left feeling out of their mind, wondering why things have changed. The final words of the song are a plea to go back to the river and watch it flow again, hoping that it might help to lift them out of their current state of mind and bring back the love that was once so strong.
