The Closing of the Doors

We're just too busy
Always
Making predictions
Never make an exception
To the rules
Why do we fight
Why do we fight at all
Oh oh oh oh
Let's just turn the whole damn thing upside down
Do you recognize the one you knew before
The closing of the doors
Don't you remind me of someone
Don't you remind me
I knew you better
Don't you remind me
Much better than that
I never loved you blindly
I new a man who was better
Much better than that
Once you've said it
Oh oh oh oh
You can't take it back
Oh oh oh oh
I knew you'd find that note someday
So I wrote down
All the things that I couldn't say
You and I
Up all night
Why do we fight at all
The closing of the doors
The calling of time
Don't you remind me of someone
Don't you remind me
"The Closing of the Doors" by Roisin Murphy is a song about relationships and how they can change over time. The lyrics reflect on how people get too busy with their lives and never allow themselves to deviate from the norm or make an exception to any rule. The artist is questioning why people fight each other instead of celebrating their differences and embracing them. By turning the whole damn thing upside down, she asks the listener to reconsider their approach to life and relationships.
The song also alludes to a broken love affair. The artist remembers a time when she felt closer to someone, but now that they have changed, she no longer recognizes the person she knew before. She is disappointed and expresses how much better she thought that person was in the past. The artist tries to leave a note, but it only serves to confirm that it is indeed the closing of the doors as she writes down all the things that she couldn't express, signifying that it is over.
Overall, the song encourages people to take a moment and reflect on themselves and how they interact with others. The artist wants listeners to remember that people can change and relationships take work, but they should embrace those changes and differences rather than fighting with each other.
