History: Rascal Flatts were founded near Columbus, Ohio. Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus were second cousins from a musical family. DeMarcus's brother-in-law, James Otto, is also a country music artist. DeMarcus moved to Nashville in 1992, earning his first record deal as part of a Christian group called East to West. In 1997, he finally convinced LeVox to leave behind his job with the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and follow his musical dreams as well.
DeMarcus soon joined Chely Wright's band, and there he met Joe Don Rooney. DeMarcus and LeVox were working in a Printer's Alley nightclub, and when their part-time guitarist could not make it one night, DeMarcus invited Rooney to sit in. Eventually, they took the name Rascal Flatts and began performing together, getting signed to Lyric Street Records in late 1999.
The band was recently announced that they have celebrated 10 years of being one of the hottest country bands of the decade. On January 7, 2020, Rascal Flatts announced that they would be disbanding following a farewell tour after twenty years together. However, this farewell tour was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic; the group's disbandment was officially confirmed in October 2021.

Red wine buzz kickin' in
A little Sarasota moonlight
Driftwood fire burnin'
She was on break from Ohio State
And I was down there sellin' para sail rides
Just another summer day
Talk about a sunset
All I could see were purples and reds
And her silhouette wavin' goodbye
She didn't come there lookin' for love
And the cool thing was
Neither did I
And neither did I
She dipped down in the water
As I slowed down, holdin' that line
Wet t-shirt on a two piece
We ditched that boat and hung outside
And we walked ankle deep in ocean
You know that place where footprints disappear
Just like that evenin' she drove away
It'll be burned in my mind for a million years
Talk about a sunset
All I could see were purples and reds
And her silhouette wavin' goodbye
She didn't come there lookin' for love
And the cool thing was
Neither did I
Talk about a sunset
All I could see were purples and reds
And her silhouette wavin' goodbye
She didn't come there lookin' for love
And the cool thing was
Neither did I
But neither did I
In Rascal Flatts' song Cool Thing, the lyrics describe a romantic encounter between two people who meet on a Florida beach. The song begins with the couple enjoying a red wine buzz and the Sarasota moonlight, warming themselves by a driftwood fire. The woman is on break from Ohio State University, while the man is selling parasail rides. The romantic moment takes an exciting turn when the man straps the woman up to parasail, and she takes off into the sunset. As the two watch the stunning sunset, they realize that they are not looking for love, but they are excited by the idea of a cool, temporary fling.
The lyrics paint a picture of a perfect summer moment, with the sunset painting the sky purple and red. The woman is depicted as carefree and not looking for love; however, she is willing to take a chance on a stranger in a new place. The man also is not looking for love, but he takes the opportunity to get to know someone new. The chorus repeats the "cool thing," which reveals that both characters are happy with a temporary romance and are okay with not knowing where this relationship could lead.
Overall, the song's lyrics describe a romantic and adventurous summer fling between two people who were not looking for love. The pair enjoys each other's company in the beautiful Sarasota landscape without the promise of a future.
