A Skeleton Bang
Rasputina Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Yeah, I saw a skeleton
Banging his head on a tombstone
In the cemetery
The sun was out
It was weird I gotta say
I asked the skeleton
I said, hey, why are you
Banging your head in that way
A tombstone in the cemetery
On such a lovely day?
He said he climbed out
When the sun came up at dawn
He just wanna see
What the heck was going on
In the sunshine
In the graveyard
All down the hillside
All over the planet
In the sunshine
In the graveyard
All down the hillside
All over the planet
Who did you meet today?
I met a very special skeleton
He had a lot of curiosity
About the living world
But that’s all that I will say today
The lyrics of Rasputina's song Skeleton Bang depict a strange encounter with a skeleton who is banging his head on a tombstone in a cemetery on a sunny day. The singer asks the skeleton why he is banging his head and what he saw in the graveyard. The skeleton replies that he just wanted to see what was going on in the living world and all over the planet. The encounter ends with the singer meeting a special skeleton who was curious about the living world.
The song seems to be about the transient nature of life and the curiosity about what happens in the world after death. The skeleton represents the remains of a life that was once lived, and its curiosity about the living world shows a desire to know more about life even in death. The sunny day in the cemetery represents the continuation of life even in a place meant for the dead. The encounter with the special skeleton seems to hint at the idea that despite death, life goes on and there is always something new to learn about.
