Historically influenced, and constantly costumed, Rasputina keeps a small legion of incredibly passionate admirers enthralled with their earnest musicianship. Considered to be quite a pioneer and visionary, Melora and her group have inspired countless young people to pick up the cello, and have re-inspired many uninspired string players. Rasputina considers this to be the finest payment for their work.

Dwarf Star
Rasputina Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I wanna tell ya 'bout my friend, the Dwarf Star
The first time I met him
He said he was a Dwarf Star
'Cause he was small
And he was famous
The second time I met him
He said I could never be a Dwarf Star
Because I was too tall
And I wasn't famous
I wanna tell ya 'bout my friend, the Dwarf Star
The third, the second time I mean
That I went to see him
He was not in a very good mood
He said, "Stop comin' around here"
I wanna tell ya 'bout my friend, the Dwarf Star
I wanna tell ya 'bout my friend, the Dwarf Star
The last time
That I went to see him
He had passed away
I wanna tell ya
I wanna tell ya
I wanna tell ya
I wanna tell ya
I wanna tell ya 'bout my friend, the Dwarf Star
I wanna tell ya 'bout my friend, the Dwarf Star
I wanna tell ya 'bout my friend, the Dwarf Star
I wanna tell ya 'bout my friend, the Dwarf Star
The end
The song "Dwarf Star" by Rasputina is a poignant tribute to a friend who has passed away. The singer introduces and describes their friend, who they refer to as the "Dwarf Star" due to their small stature and fame. The first two times they meet, the Dwarf Star comments on their differences, that the singer cannot be a Dwarf Star because of their height and lack of fame. However, by the third time they meet, the Dwarf Star is in a bad mood and tells the singer to stop coming around. Finally, the singer visits their friend one last time only to find that they have passed away.
The song can be interpreted in various ways, but it seems to be about the power of friendships and the difficulties encountered when two people who are different attempt to form a bond. The Dwarf Star's fame may have made them feel isolated and different from others, and the singer's height could have represented their own feelings of insecurity or not fitting in. Ultimately, the song is a touching reflection on a lost friendship, highlighting the sadness and finality of death.

Ah yes. From the album "How We Quit the Forest". A lot of their stuff on that album seemed a departure from the sound I had come to love on "Thanks for the Ether".
