Founded by Creager in 1992, they have long held true to their mission of enlightening the common man as to the power and versatility of the mighty cello. Historically influenced, and constantly costumed, Rasputina keeps a small legion of incredibly passionate admirers enthralled with their earnest musicianship. Considered to be quite a pioneer and visionary, Melora and her group have inspired countless young people to pick up the cello, and have re-inspired many uninspired string players. Rasputina considers this to be the finest payment for their work.
Professional involvements have included Nirvana, Ultra Vivid Scene, Marilyn Manson, Porno For Pyros, Belle and Sebastian, and Cheap Trick.

To fly high, then go now
To the place where all the concubines
Meet and converse with them,
Marvel at their pale skin,
Wonder how they chew on their pointy
Teeth and hair are beauty,
They know it's their duty,
Minds that have to whisper,
See in them a sister
Look into their eyes and you'll be a
Transylvanian Concubine.
You know what flows here like wine.
Stay with here us
it's just time.
Transylvanian Concubine.
Sorrow is their master
Cackling with laughter
Now he's having just one piece of....
Cakey is their make up
Catholics try to shake up
All the things that form their lives, but they're
Dead, their sighs, their songs
They know what they do is wrong
Stay here with us,
it's just time.
Transylvanian Concubine.
Candelabra's lighted,
Satan has been sighted,
Never has there been an evening like
This is what they wanted
Always to feel hunted
You can never be too rich or too thin.
The blood has run out.
Fangs ruin any cute pout.
Morning has come now they've flown...
What have you learned from what has been shown?
The lyrics of Rasputina's song "Transylvanian Concubine" describe a fantastical place where concubines gather and converse. The singer encourages the listener to visit this place in order to learn how to "fly high," implying that there is some sort of powerful knowledge to be gained there. The concubines themselves are described in detail, with pale skin, pointy teeth, and hair that is seen as beautiful. They are countesses in their own hearts and minds, but must whisper about it because it is not socially acceptable. The lyrics suggest a sense of sisterhood and community among these women.
However, the song also conveys a sense of danger and darkness. The concubines are described as being hunted, and sorrow is their master. The mention of Satan and the candelabra's light further emphasizes the sinister mood. Despite this, the concubines seem to revel in their role as outcasts, and assert that one can never be too rich or too thin. The final lines of the song ask the listener what they have learned from this experience.
Overall, the lyrics of "Transylvanian Concubine" create a vivid portrait of a place that is both alluring and dangerous.
