1) Recover comes to u… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least three bands called Recover:
1) Recover comes to us from Austin, TX. Started by four young childhood friends as a Green Day cover band, the reclusive set eventually found a sound of their own that defies today’s incessant need for sub-categories. If you can’t resist, Recover is a rock band, pure and simple.
After releasing their first full length “Rodeo and Picasso” in 2001 on indie Fueled By Ramen, at an average age of just 18, Recover was approached to release an EP with another indie, Fiddler, later that year. 'Ceci N'est Pas Recover' was recorded in 2002, with producer Brian McTernan, at Salad Days studio in Beltsville, Maryland. Slowly pulling out an evolved sound, Recover found their voice and set their sights on touring. Their raucous live show and strong original songwriting quickly made them a bands’ band leading to a slew of great touring partners. They hit the road relentlessly for two years with peers including Jimmy Eat World, A.F.I., Taking Back Sunday, Coheed & Cambria, Thrice, Thursday and many others. After signing with Strummer/Universal records the band spent the second part of 2003 writing and recording their major label debut due out in the fall of 2004. Recorded by hometown friend and confidant ‘5th member’ Rory Phillips and mixed by the legendary Andy Wallace, the album combines the raw emotion and experimental musicianship that encompasses the ‘best of’ their previous two efforts.
In early 2009, the band announced that they have officially reunited and that their first show back will be at the Chain Reaction.
2) Recover is also a Hardcore band from Singapore. Their S/T album is the second full length from this old Singaporean band. This full length retains the old school hardcore sound with plenty of breakdowns, sing alongs, fingerpoints and mosh parts with a slight metallic feel. The production is superb but not overly done. Lyrics deal with socio politcal issues like the Bush administration, the UN, IMF and more. Comes in a tri fold digipack. A classic.
3) Recover is a currently unsigned rock band based in County Carlow, Ireland. The four members are originally from Co. Carlow, Co. Wicklow, Co. Dublin and Turkey. The band began in 2008. Recover play covers as well as a handful of original songs.
Match Like Memory
Recover Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It leads us away to forget the laughs
and all of the past.
But I will remember,
I always will.
All this time and so much to show.
I can't hold on, but I can't let go.
It's been days, but it feels like weeks.
Waking up is not as easy as it used to be.
I spend my nights looking for the words to bring
it to my side and make it stay.
Search for your feelings.
How perfect, we are a match
like that game, memory.
All this time leads us away
All this time and so much to show.
I can't hold on, but I can't let go.
The lyrics of "Match Like Memory" by Recover explore themes of nostalgia, longing, and the passage of time. The opening lines set a reflective tone, suggesting that time inevitably pulls us away from the past, making it easy to forget the joyous moments and experiences we once shared. Despite this natural drifting, the singer asserts their determination to hold onto those memories, implying that they will always cherish and remember them.
As the lyrics progress, the sense of contradiction and inner conflict becomes apparent. The mention of having "so much to show" juxtaposed with the struggle of being unable to let go evokes a sense of being caught between past and present, wanting to move forward but feeling anchored by the weight of memory. This internal turmoil is further reflected in the line "Waking up is not as easy as it used to be," hinting at a sense of disorientation and emotional difficulty in facing each new day.
The passage of time is accentuated by the lyrics portraying the fleeting nature of moments, with days feeling like weeks and nights spent searching for elusive words to capture and hold onto a fading presence. This sense of urgency and longing to preserve what is slipping away adds a poignant layer to the song's narrative, highlighting the fragility and preciousness of memories and emotions.
The chorus of the song, likening the singer's connection with another to a perfect match in the game of memory, serves as a metaphor for the deep bond and synchronicity they share. The repetition of the lines "All this time leads us away" and "I can't hold on, but I can't let go" reinforces the central theme of grappling with the passage of time and the struggle to reconcile the desire to move forward with the reluctance to release the past. Overall, "Match Like Memory" captures the bittersweet essence of reminiscence and the complexity of navigating the emotional landscape of memory and longing.
