Grammar Nazi
Reese Lansangan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

See I like a boy – cute and nice and tall
But there’s one problem (Guess what)
He couldn’t spell right at all
And I know that’s not the end all – be all
But it really kinda blows
Poor guy doesn’t even like book (I know!)
And sometimes, it shows
My momma told me it’s unwise to like a boy who is just nice
Who couldn’t put apostrophe s’s on his possessives
And don’t look at me when I look at you
Whenever you say β€œstuffs”
β€˜Cause that’s my cue (RETCHHH)

I’m not a nazi- I just care about good grammar
He paparazzi (okay), I just said that β€˜cause it rhymed
But don’t you dare commit a grammar crime on me

You type β€œlose” with one o if you’re losing your mind
Two O’s for describing bowel movements of any kind
You see β€œyour” and β€œyou’re”
They’re two, two different things, baby
It’s YOUR problem YOU’RE confused
But I’mma help you out with the words you use, yea

My momma told me it’s unwise to like a boy who is just nice
Who couldn’t put apostrophe s’s on his possessives
And don’t look at me when I look at you
Whenever you say β€œstuffs”
β€˜Cause that’s my cue (RETCHHH)

I’m not a nazi- I just care about good grammar
He paparazzi (okay), I just said that β€˜cause it rhymed
But don’t you dare commit a grammar crime on me

I suggest you brush up on your subject-verb agreement
If we keep this up, it’s gonna be a commitment
You never say β€œDogs barks” – you just say β€œbark”
Pay a bit of attention we’re gonna take it to the park

Double negatives and all its relatives
Don’t sound no good if they ain’t in a rap song
I’m gonna break it down to you
I hate it when you say β€œfurnitures”
When you mean β€œpieces of furniture”

Let the plural be pluralized
The English language doesn’t deserve to be compromised
It’s TO to direct, TOO for β€œtoo much”, TWO is a number
Learn it, else I’ll be holding a grudge

THERE’S two baby cubs
And THEIR momma lion
And THEY’RE together it’s as clear as day
If you’re debating if β€œI was” versus β€œIf I were”, I say
Who would you believe more?
Bieber or Beyonce

I’m not a nazi- I just care about good grammar
He paparazzi (okay), I just said that β€˜cause it rhymed
But don’t you dare commit a grammar crime on me

I’m not a nazi- I just care about good grammar

He paparazzi (okay), I just said that β€˜cause it rhymed
But don’t you dare commit a grammar crime on me

Overall Meaning

In Reese Lansangan's song, "Grammar Nazi," the lyrics tell the story of a girl who likes a boy but cannot bring herself to pursue a relationship with him due to his poor grammar skills. The girl learns about the boy's inability to spell and use correct grammar, which makes her question the possibility of being with him. She shares her knowledge of basic grammar rules with the boy and encourages him to improve his language use before committing to a relationship. The song emphasizes the value of proper grammar and language use in our daily lives and relationships.

The song takes a humorous approach to highlight the significance of good grammar use, often using over-the-top descriptions and wordplay to make its point. Lansangan calls out common grammatical errors and misconceptions, such as 'loose' instead of 'lose,' and 'your' versus 'you're,' while also emphasizing the importance of subject-verb agreement and proper pluralization. The chorus serves as a warning to anyone who dares to commit a "grammar crime" in front of her.

One of the most interesting facts about "Grammar Nazi" is that it was inspired by actual events. Lansangan shared in interviews that the song was based on her experience of meeting a guy who showed interest in her but had poor grammar skills. She found it challenging to continue the conversation with him due to his errors, which led to her writing the song. Additionally, the song gained popularity because it was featured in the popular Netflix show, "Atypical," which helped bring more attention to the song and Lansangan's music.

Another fun fact about the song is the use of wordplay and puns. For example, Lansangan describes the boy in the song as "cute and nice and tall, but there's one problem (Guess what?) He couldn't spell right at all." The wordplay of "right" and "write" is clever and adds a playful tone to the song. Additionally, the comparison of the girl being a "grammar Nazi" and the boy being a "paparazzi" shows the clever use of a rhyme to address language issues.

Why is this better than the music videos that are produced by people from ABS-CBN, VIVA, and GMA??? lol XD We need more artists who create songs like this with aesthetic AF mv's. I'm not familiar with this artist but I already love this song and style!!! Melody reminds me of Japanese and Korean songs <3 Keep it up!!! I hope the big music companies and mainstream artists in The Philippines will learn from you guys~~~ ^_^

because people care more about QUANTITY than QUALITY :)

readlwrm

Kpop is famous because its quality is better, they have actual professionals in the industry that helps them in videography and sound engineering, ofc opm is no match. Walang marketing system sila, also koreans are versatile in their music, opm tends to stick to one or two repeated genres. Kpop isn't famous because of luck, its famous because of timing, marketing, visuals, and professionallity that brought it to where it is today.
