On Saturday Afternoons
Rickie Lee Jones Lyrics

The most as you'll ever go
Is back where you used to know
If grown-ups could laugh this slow
Where as you watch the hour snow
Years may go by

So hold on to your special friend
Here, you'll need something to keep her in:
"Now you stay inside this foolish grin"
Though any day your secrets end
Then again
Years may go by

You saved your own special friend
'Cause here you need something to hide her in
And you stay inside that foolish grin
When everyday now secrets end
Oh and then again
Years may go by

You realize this song is only two minutes and thirty five seconds long. And in that brief time we are transported to the past where lost loved ones live again and we relive our entire lives until the present. All this in under 3 minutes. This song is precious.

Yes ❤

The most prescient observation ever made about this song. And yet if I saw this comment when the song came out (I have it on vinyl LP) it would not have sunk in. The first statement says a lot about you. The second statement says a lot about me.

@BBoydgirl1

I truly feel this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

I first heard this watching House MD, blew me away. The voice, the lyrics and that haunting piano, very few songs have that very special atmosphere but this is right up there.

@torigodbey383

It was on House?

@Versul1

Just finished watching that episode and found myself here after being so touched by the song.
