The lyrics of Rildo Hora's "Hello Goodbye" describe a back-and-forth dialogue between two people who have differing opinions and perspectives. The verses follow a simple pattern in which one person says one thing, and the other responds with something else. The first verse sets up the dynamic with the exchange "You say Yes, I say No / You say Stop but I Say Go, Go, Go." The chorus then comes in and acknowledges the confusion and tension this brings by repeating the titular phrase, "You say Goodbye and I say Hello," multiple times. The repetition of these phrases throughout the song emphasizes the disconnect and lack of understanding between the two individuals.
Verse two continues the theme with "I Say High, You Say Low / You Say Why and I Say I Don't Know," while also introducing a sense of frustration on the part of both parties. The chorus repeats once again, adding a layer of finality to the idea that they are in different places with no clear resolution in sight. The third verse adds another layer to the dialogue, with the two people seemingly trying to find common ground and reason with each other. However, even this attempt ends with the same circular pattern as before, "You Say Yes (I Say Yes) / I Say No (But I May Mean No, I can Stay Till It's Time To Go) / You Say Stop / And I Say Go Go Go."
Overall, "Hello Goodbye" is a succinct and relatable exploration of a common human experience: the struggle to communicate when two people are seeing things from different perspectives. The lyrics, sung in a melodic and upbeat fashion, hide a deeper sense of tension and discord beneath their catchy exterior.
