1) Possessed with an earth shaking heaviness and alarming "no frills" punk urgency, Belgium's Rise And Fall are the next chapter of true hardcore/punk greatness.
Rise And Fall sharpened their teeth with their debut album, "Hellmouth" in 2004 (SA Mob/JTTP). "Hellmouth" showed a raw ferocity that few bands hold. Capturing the attention of many, Rise And Fall soon after found themselves on tour with Converge, The Great Deceiver, and others in Europe. After that landmark tour, Rise And Fall shed members only to evolve into a revamped, recharged musical monster. After months of grueling work with the new lineup, Rise And Fall released their "Into Oblivion" album in 2005 (Deathwish/Reflections). Recorded at CCR Studios and later mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge) at Godcity Studios, "Into Oblivion" captured the kind of emotional darkness and white knuckle violence that few bands ever artistically achieve. "Into Oblivion" was praised by aggressive music connoisseurs worldwide, propelling Rise And Fall to the forefront of the hardcore community. The band followed the release with their "Clawing" 7"EP in 2007, a release also held in high regard by the hardcore masses.
In the last few years, Rise And Fall have been tirelessly touring the world over. Sharing stages worldwide with Converge, Integrity, Coliseum, The Hope Conspiracy, Ceremony, Have Heart, Shipwreck a.d., and many more of hardcore's elite artists. Even performing at most major hardcore and metal festivals worldwide.
Four years since the release of "Into Oblivion", Rise And Fall have now completed their circle. On October 27th, Rise And Fall will release their highly anticipated new album "Our Circle Is Vicious" on Deathwish.
Recorded at God City studios by Kurt Ballou (Converge, Disfear), "Our Circle Is Vicious" is Rise And Fall's rightful return to the throne as the kings of dark, ominous hardcore. From the opening barrage of "Soul Slayer" and "Built On Graves" the evolution of Rise And Fall is absolutely stunning. Heavier and harder than ever, it quickly becomes apparent that every aspect of their musicianship has grown leaps and bounds in recent years. Guitarist Cedric Goetgebuer balances bone shattering heaviness and unorthodox melodies unlike any other musician today. Bringing each song to post-apocalyptic life with an electrifying intensity. All of this is complimented by Bjorn Dossche's emotional vocal outpouring as it spills across the album with unforgettable realness. Rise And Fall continue this musical battery throughout, however it is when they unleash the dynamic "In Circles" and the epic closer "Knowing" that the true scope of their creative vision sinks its teeth in. Both songs utterly haunting, moving, and unpredictable in their unique twists and turns. Blurring the divisions and dismissing the limitations that exist within much of contemporary heavy music.
All in all, Rise And Fall's "Our Circle Is Vicious" is a stunning artistic achievement. One that will surely cast a shadow over the aggressive music world for many years to come.
"Deceiver" b/w "Sinking In Sin" is a limited 7"EP from Rise And Fall that hints at their future, while also honoring their H8000 past.
"Deceiver" is taken from their highly anticipated new album, "Faith", due out in early 2012. Already a staple of their live sets, "Deceiver" is an absolute ripper of a song that combines the strongest songwriting elements of their "Into Oblivion" and "Our Circle Is Vicious" albums. Frantic drumming, discordant guitars, and passionate vocal screams all build into an awe-inducing wall of sound. If "Deceiver" is any indication of what is on the horizon, Rise And Fall's "Faith" will be a serious contender for one of the best hardcore albums of 2012.
The B-Side of this 7"EP features "Sinking In Sin", Rise And Fall's tribute to Belgian Hardcore legends, Congress, and the H8000 Scene as a whole. In their interpretation of the song, Rise And Fall create a dark and textural atmosphere that compliments the powerful metallic hardcore foundation that Congress laid before them. They are even joined by former members of Congress and Liar, bringing the two generations of Belgian Hardcore together, as one vicious circle.
2) Rise and Fall is a melodic hardcore band from Japan.

And you're the only place that feels like home
Just so you know, you'll never know
And some secrets weren't meant to be told
But, I found the cure to growing older
I'm the first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends
And I am sorry my conscience called in sick again
Oh, and I'm the first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends
Douse yourself in cheap perfume
It's so fitting, so fitting of the way you are
You can't cover it up
Can't cover it up
So douse yourself in cheap perfume
It's so, so fitting, so fitting of the way you are
You can't cover it up
Can't cover it up no oh oh whoa
Find a safe place, brace yourself, bite your lip
I'm sending your fingernails and empty bottles you've sipped
Back to your family 'cause I know you will be missed
So you can find a safe place, brace yourself
They call kids like us vicious and carved out of stone
But for what we've become, we just feel more alone
Always weigh what I've got against what I left
So progress report: I am missing you to death
Douse yourself in cheap perfume
It's so fitting, so fitting of the way you are
You can't cover it up
Can't cover it up
So douse yourself in cheap perfume
It's so, so fitting, so fitting of the way you are
You can't cover it up
Can't cover it up, no oh
Someone old
No one new
Feeling borrowed
Always blue
Someone old
No one new
Feeling borrowed
Always blue
Someone old
No one new
Feeling borrowed
Always blue
Someone old
No one new
Always borrowed
Always you
I found a cure to growing older
I found a cure to growing older
Douse yourself in cheap perfume
It's so fitting, so fitting of the way you are
You can't cover it up
Can't cover it up
So douse yourself in cheap perfume
It's so fitting, so fitting of the way you are
You can't cover it up
Can't cover it up
The lyrics of Rise and Fall's song "In & Out" explore themes of youth, self-discovery, and the struggle to find a place in the world. The opening lines, "I found the cure to growing older/And you're the only place that feels like home" suggest that the singer has found solace and a sense of belonging with someone or something in their life. However, they also acknowledge that some secrets are meant to be kept hidden, implying that there are aspects of their journey that cannot be fully shared or understood.
In the second verse, the singer describes themselves as the "first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends," suggesting that they are introspective and contemplative. They express regret that their conscience seems to be absent or unreliable, indicating a struggle with guilt or internal conflict. They also boast about their arrogance, claiming to have it down to a science. This could be a commentary on the mask of confidence and bravado that many people wear, especially during their youth.
The chorus, "Douse yourself in cheap perfume/ It's so fitting, so fitting of the way you are/ You can't cover it up/ Can't cover it up," implies that the person being addressed is trying to hide or mask their true self with superficiality or artifice. The repetition of the line emphasizes the futility of trying to conceal one's authentic nature. The singer seems to be urging them to embrace their true self, suggesting that it is more genuine and honest.
In the third verse, the singer encourages the person to find a safe place and brace themselves, hinting that there may be challenges or difficulties ahead. They mention sending the person's fingernails and empty bottles back to their family, implying a separation or departure. The line "we just feel more alone" highlights a common feeling of isolation and alienation experienced by the singer and their peers, who are often judged or misunderstood by society.
The final lines of the song, "Someone old/ No one new/ Always borrowed/ Always you," reinforce the idea of the ongoing struggle to find one's identity and place in the world. The repetition of the phrase "always blue" suggests a constant state of melancholy or sadness, perhaps reflecting the emotional toll of this journey. The closing repeated lines, "I found a cure to growing older," bring the song full circle, suggesting that despite the challenges and hardships faced, the singer has found a way to navigate through the complexities of life and aging.
Overall, "In & Out" explores themes of self-discovery, authenticity, and the challenges faced by young people in finding their place in the world. It speaks to the desire to be understood and to find a sense of belonging, while also acknowledging the difficulties in navigating one's own path.

Sometimes in life you feel the fight is over
And it seems as though the writing is on the wall
Superstar you finally made it
But once your picture becomes tainted
It's what they call
The rise and fall
.
I always said that I was gonna make it
Now it's plain for everyone to see
But this game I'm in don't take no prisoners
Just casualties
I know that everything is gonna change
Even the friends I knew before may go
But this dream is the life I've been searching for
Started believing that I was the greatest
My life was never gonna be the same
Cause with the money came a different status
That's when things change
Now I'm too concerned with all the things I own
Blinded by all the pretty girls I see
I'm beginning to lose my integrity
.
Sometimes in life you feel the fight is over
And it seems as though the writing is on the wall
Superstar you finally made it
But once your picture becomes tainted
It's what they call
The rise and fall
.
I never used to be a troublemaker
Now I don't even wanna please the fans
No autographs, no interviews, no pictures
Endless demands
Given advice that was clearly wrong
The type that seems to make me feel so right
But some things you may find can take over your life
Burnt all my bridges, now I've run out of places
And there's nowhere left for me to turn
Been caught in compromising situations
I should have learned
From all those times I didn't walk away
When I knew that it was best to go
Is it too late to show you the shape of my heart?
.
Sometimes in life you feel the fight is over
And it seems as though the writing is on the wall
Superstar you finally made it
But once your picture becomes tainted
It's what they call
The rise and fall
.
Now I know I made mistakes
Think I don't care
But you don't realize what this means to me
So let me have just one more chance
I'm not the man I used to be.
