Fade Out
Rival Sons Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Fade out slowly
Go out your own way
Go out and get what you need
For if you don't stay
There's nobody watching you bleed
Ghost is what you are now
Gone out in the dark
Somehow I could still feel you
Time is only a fear
It lives on what you will feed it
You are only a leaf
The tree is so deeply rooted
Ghost is what you are now
Out there where no one can see you
Gone out in the dark
Somehow I could still feel you
Fade out slowly
Hey
Hey
Ghost is what you are now
Out there where no one can see
The lyrics of Rival Sons' song "Fade Out" talk about the feeling of being lost and forgotten. The very first lines "House is empty, fade out slowly" give the idea of a lonely place where the memories of the past still linger, but they are fading away slowly. The singer is telling someone to go out and get what they need, to follow their own path, but at the same time, he is suggesting that they will be alone in doing so. The lines, "For if you don't stay, there's nobody watching you bleed" imply that the person needs to be strong and fight for themselves because no one else can or will help them.
Moreover, the song talks about death, and how at times it can be a lonely and lonely experience. The lines "Ghost is what you are now, Out there where no one can see you, Gone out in the dark, Somehow I could still feel you," indicate that the person being spoken to is no longer living and has become a ghost. The singer can still sense them in some way, even though they are no longer physically present. The chorus repeats, "Fade out slowly, Hey, Hey," which could imply that the person is slowly fading away, leaving almost nothing left behind.
In conclusion, Rival Sons' "Fade Out" is a poignant and evocative song that speaks to the feelings of loneliness and abandonment. It highlights the importance of standing on one's own two feet and being self-reliant while also acknowledging the pain and confusion that can come with death.

The lyrics, the vocals, the drums, the solo. This song is a masterpiece.

Jay Buchanan is such an emotional singer! I watched Rival Sons open for Black Sabbath and Jay explained this song was written due to his recent loss of a dear friend. Jay had to step off stage briefly to recompose himself after this song ended.

Great song. Great use of dynamics and great vocals throughout, and a great guitar solo. I'm sure the person whom this song is about would have loved it.

Saw these guys play an apparently emotion fuelled version of this at the Leadmill in Sheffield last night, I have to say they were beyond my expectations in every way. A fantastic band truly up there.
