Little Misty Days
Robin Trower Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Long misty days
Told me they would change their ways
Once in a while will come my way

The thrill is gone
Misty days linger on and on
Once in a while is here to stay
We feed this fire
Lovers in a nursery rhyme
The words belong to you
And the melody was mine

Long misty days
Told me in a million ways
Once in a while will come my way

Oh how the moon
Shining at a lonely room
Weeping willow cry for me

Sing me a song
Simple as the day is long
I love someone crying to be free

And take the sky
And tell me if the moon is blue
And if it's meant to be
That my melody was used

Long misty days
Told me in a million ways
Once in a while will come my way

Long misty days

Told me they would change the ways
Once in a while is here to stay

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Robin Trower's "Little Misty Days" reflect a bittersweet nostalgia for a past love. The first verse refers to "long misty days" that promised to change their ways, but never did. Trower seems resigned to this fact, acknowledging that "once in a while will come my way," but the "thrill is gone" and the "misty days linger on and on." This sense of longing is reinforced in the second verse, where Trower references a "lonely room" and a weeping willow, seeking comfort in a simple song that speaks to the pain of unrequited love.

The memories come flooding back as soon as this song begins. A young life lived at a much slower pace. When you wanted to talk to a friend, you went and knocked on their door and telephones were on the kitchen wall were they belonged. Smoked cheap weed, went to lots of great concerts and the friends I had then are the best I will ever have in my lifetime. Life was grand. Then life interrupted my youth. Oh, those were the days my friends.
