Broken Arrow
Rod Stewart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who else is gonna bring you a broken arrow
Who else is gonna bring you a bottle of rain
There he goes moving across the water
There he goes turning my whole world around

Do you feel what I feel
Can we make it so that's part of the deal
I gotta hold you in these arms of steel
Lay your heart on the line this time

I want to breathe when you breathe
When you whisper like that hot summer breeze
Count the beads of sweat that cover me
Didn't you show me a sign this time

Who else is gonna bring you a broken arrow
Who else is gonna bring you a bottle of rain
There he goes moving across the water
There he goes turning my whole world around, around

Do you feel what I feel
Do you feel what I feel
Ah can you see what I see
Can you cut behind the mystery
I will meet you by the witness tree
Leave the whole world behind

I want to come when you call
I'll get to you if I have to crawl
They can't hold me with these iron walls
We got mountains to climb, to climb

Who else is gonna bring you a broken arrow
Who else is gonna bring you a bottle of rain
There he goes moving across the water
There he goes turning my whole world around
Turning my whole world around

Turning my whole world around
Turning my whole world around

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Rod Stewart's "Broken Arrow" tell the story of a man who is deeply in love with someone and is willing to go to any lengths to be with her. The song's title is a metaphorical representation of the singer's willingness to provide whatever his lover needs, even if it's a broken arrow or a bottle of rain. The lyrics are about being completely vulnerable and giving your all to your significant other, showing them that they matter more than anything else in your life.

The lyrics are an expression of the intensity of love that the singer feels for his lover. They are emotionally visceral and raw, and the passion behind them is unmistakable. The chorus of the song speaks of how no one else can bring these things to the lover because the singer regards himself as the only one capable of doing so.

The lyrics also show a sense of urgency and desperation as the singer wants to bond with his significant other on a deeper level. He wants to breathe when she breathes, feel what she feels, and climb mountains with her. Overall, the song is a romantic anthem about love and the lengths that people are willing to go to in order to make it work.

R.I.P. Robbie Robertson. His original version from 1987 is outstanding. Rod does a good job with this cover. Great that he gave this song more exposure.

This song is deeper for me with the thought that a broken arrow is end of war inside yourself and a bottle of rain is what you need to quench the thirst inside of yourself. Someone who brings you peace and quenches all your needs. Love this song.

This song's so spiritual/religious on a personal level...& i think that's what it was for Rod Stewart when he (wrote?) sang this.

Lisa Corleone

You described this song perfectly. Thank you
