González retired in the late 1980s, but started a second career in 1996 when the solo album Introducing...Rubén González was published. The next year, U.S.-musician Ry Cooder produced Buena Vista Social Club, featuring González, Compay Segundo, Ibrahim Ferrer, Omara Portuondo, Elíades Ochoa and some other Cuban musicians. Wim Wenders produced a biographical movie under the same name, and González and his colleagues became famous all over the world.
Quizás Quizás
Rubén González Lyrics

Qué, cuándo, cómo y dónde
Tú siempre me respondes
Quizás, quizás, quizás
Y asi pasan los días
Y yo desesperando
Y tú, tú, contestando
Estás perdiendo el tiempo
Pensando, pensando
Por lo que mas tu quieras
Hasta cuando, hasta cuando
Y asi pasan los dias
Y yo desesperando
Y tu, tu contestando
Quizás, quizás, quizás
The lyrics to Rubén González's song "Quizás Quizás" are a conversation between two people in a relationship, with one person consistently asking questions about the future of their relationship and receiving vague and noncommittal answers from their partner. The refrain of "Quizás, quizás, quizás" (perhaps, perhaps, perhaps) highlights the uncertainty and indecision of the other person.
The first verse sets up the pattern of the conversation, with the singer asking "what, when, how, and where" and receiving the same response each time. This repetition creates a sense of frustration and stagnation, as the singer is unable to get a clear answer from their partner. The second verse intensifies this frustration, as the singer becomes increasingly desperate for an answer and the partner continues to evade the question.
The third verse brings in another element - the idea that the partner is wasting time by being indecisive. The lines "thinking, thinking / for whatever you want most / until when, until when" reinforce the idea that the partner is delaying making a decision, but also suggest that there may be something they want that they're not admitting to. The final refrain again emphasizes the ongoing uncertainty in the relationship.
Overall, "Quizás Quizás" is a poignant meditation on the frustrations and uncertainty of relationships, particularly ones where one partner is more invested than the other.
