Towards 1970 there began to materialise the Basque City. Never before had the noun and the adjective joined together. One spoke of the Mountain, the Earth, the Nation, all of them Basque; but the privileged space where the world became truly wide seemed forbidden to those who wished to express themselves in the language that sustains the adjective, the Basque tongue. It was as if someone, the Spirit of the Time, for example, might have hurled out an order: "Either change your language, or change your place". Which in the case of RO, meant: "Dear friend, either devote yourself to romantic music or to patriotic music. And if not, give it up". The message was clear. It meant solitude. And it was a curse. A snare.
RO put up with the solitude, and against the long road he opposed his will and his intelligence. RO forgot the curse: from his first records, his material was diverse, general, non-religious: he could do with the laundry, a van, or a visit from a woman. RO eluded the snare: instead of crossing to the other side of the border, he remained close to it and took on its history. He didn¹t become the chameleon of the storybook tale, neither in a branch of the General Bank of Music, nor in the International Basque Singer for Tourists. He remained a personal creator, with committed lyrics and music towards his loved, hated, distant, close Basque City.

halaxe ikasi nuen nik,
zeozer sakonago
esan nahi ta
bururatu ez besterik.
Lekutan egongo nintzen ni,
irratia piztuta,
gau-pasata nengoen eta
Ez da posible, ezin liteke,
ondo nago eta hau bakarrik
behar nuen.
Ez da posible, ezin liteke,
ondo nago eta gauza haundirik
pentsatzeke.
Lo egin gabe, goizaldean,
beheraldian nabil baina
berehala aditu dut
eguneroko partea.
48. Josu dutela harrapatu,
gero gertatzeko zena
orduan zeinek asmatu.
The lyrics of Ruper Ordorika's song "Ez da itzuliko" paint a picture of the singer's life, and the struggles they face in trying to move on from their past. The first verse speaks to the singer's desire to communicate something deeper, but their inability to do so. They express a feeling of being trapped, unable to express themselves fully. The second verse describes the singer's isolation and routine, spending their days listening to the radio and their nights lost in thought. The chorus repeats the title phrase "Ez da itzuliko," meaning "it can't be regained," emphasizing that the singer feels stuck and incapable of change. The final verse mentions a moment of realization, where the singer hears a news story about someone getting caught doing something wrong. The lyrics suggest that this event triggers a shift in the singer's own perspective, making them question what they have done or what they could do differently.
Overall, "Ez da itzuliko" is a contemplative and introspective song that explores the difficulties of personal growth and change. The singer is struggling to move forward and feels like they are stuck in old habits, but the final verse hints at the possibility of transformation. The song's title and chorus serve as a reminder that some things cannot be regained or undone, but the lyrics also suggest that there is always room for growth and change.

Egunak 24 ordu,
Days are 24 hours,
halaxe ikasi nuen nik,
That's what I learned,
zeozer sakonago
Something deeper,
esan nahi ta
Wishing to say,
bururatu ez besterik.
Nothing but stuttering.
Lekutan egongo nintzen ni,
I would be in a place,
irratia piztuta,
With the radio on,
gau-pasata nengoen eta
Going to bed late at night,
errainuak itsututa.
With my headphones on.
Ez da posible, ezin liteke,
It is not possible, could not,
ondo nago eta hau bakarrik
I feel good and just this,
behar nuen.
I needed it.
Ez da posible, ezin liteke,
It is not possible, could not,
ondo nago eta gauza haundirik
I feel good and nothing more,
pentsatzeke.
To think about.
Lo egin gabe, goizaldean,
Without sleeping, in the morning,
beheraldian nabil baina
I'm feeling down but,
berehala aditu dut
I immediately listen,
eguneroko partea.
To the daily part.
48. Josu dutela harrapatu,
Having caught 48,
gero gertatzeko zena
To see what happens later,
orduan zeinek asmatu.
At that moment, who knows.
