The first chapter of Jorn Lande and Russell Allen’s collaboration, “The Battle” was unleashed in September 2005 with unanimous acclaim from fans and critics alike.
Many websites and magazines named it “Record of the Year”. It’s success made it one of the most popular releases ever in Melodic Heavy Metal, thanks to beautiful, sweeping piano and keyboards, heavy guitar riffs, virtuoso guitar solos, hooky choruses and the vocal talents of two of the finest Heavy Metal vocalists around.
Russell Allen is the singer of the American Progressive Metal band SYMPHONY X, who have released six studio albums and one live record so far. More than once SYMPHONY X received accolades such as "Best Progressive Power Metal Band Worldwide" or awards for the "Best Progressive Metal Album of the Year".
Highly rated ex-MASTERPLAN vocalist JORN LANDE has a vocal capability that is world class, distinctive, rich and spanning a large range. He is in high demand and has appeared as guest or sung for such bands as MILLENIUM, ARK, THE SNAKES and many others. He is also a well-known solo artist with six studio albums released, since the debut "Starfire" in 1999.
Once again songs were written by guitar sensation MAGNUS KARLSSON (STARBREAKER, LAS TRIBE), the second chapter aptly titled “The Revenge” is ready to be unleashed, with cover art specifically designed for this project by Rodney Matthews (DIAMOND HEAD, MAGNUM, ASIA etc.)
Heavier and with a tighter production, thanks to the involvement of Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69, ANGRA, PLACE VENDOME) at the mix, this album will excite the many fans who loved the first chapter and everyone who declares themselves fan of quality Hard Rock or Metal.
Obsessed
Russell Allen & Jorn Lande Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's no reason why I can't stop now
No explanation why I'm under this spell
Can't seem to shake, can't seem to break my new habit
I wonder if I am closer, closer to hell
[Bridge:]
I have found something that really matters
I can't feel any pain no more
I can't see, I can't eat
[Chorus:]
I'm obsessed
With a new world rising
My kingdom will come
I'm obsessed
See the new light growing
My empire will rule you all
I'm on a mission
I don't know what's going on around me, no
Haven't seen no light in so many days now
Soon you will understand
Soon you will see
[Bridge]
[Chorus]
[Solo]
[Bridge]
[Chorus]
I'm obsessed
The song "Obsessed" by Russell Allen and Jorn Lande seems to be about someone who has found a new obsession or addiction and cannot seem to break free from it. The first verse speaks to the struggle of trying to stop but being unable to do so, questioning if they are getting closer to "hell". The bridge suggests that the obsession has become a source of comfort or belief for the singer, causing them to not feel pain or see or eat.
The chorus, on the other hand, takes a more grandiose turn, with the singer declaring themselves obsessed with a "new world rising" and promising their kingdom will come and empire will rule. They are on a mission, and though they may not understand what is happening around them or have seen the light in many days, they promise that others will soon see and understand.
Overall, the song seems to be tackling the idea of obsession and how it can both consume and empower a person simultaneously. It touches on the idea of surrendering oneself to a higher power or belief, and suggests that perhaps that surrender can be dangerous if taken too far.
