The Other Side
Ryan Bingham Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Every time I turn around
A man tries to get me down
I just can't see your face
I'm blinded by the sun, living on the run
And I can't remember this place

Take me to the other side
Wind, won't you let me ride?
Take me to the other side, oh pretty mama
And on the wind won't you let me ride?

'Cause every time I turn around
A man's trying to get me down
I just can't see your face
I'm driving on the river, tires on my Mercedes gone
Now it's time to put the hammer down

Won't you take me to the other side?
Let me go when I'm high
Well, take me to the other side, oh pretty mama
And on the wind won't you let me ride?

Cowboy's your given name
Nothing ever stays the same
'Cept the rain falling down
You can't keep from goin'
No, the wind is always damn cold
It's time to put the hammer down

Won't you take me to the other side?
And let me go when I'm high
Well, take me to the other side, oh pretty mama
And on the wind won't you let me ride?

Well, won't you take me to the other side?
And on the wind won't you let me ride?

Overall Meaning

In Ryan Bingham's song The Other Side, the singer seems to be constantly on the move, trying to outrun someone or something that is trying to bring him down. He is blinded by the bright sun and can't remember where he is, but he keeps driving on, hoping to find a way out. The lyrics suggest a sense of restlessness and a desire for escape, with the singer asking to be taken "to the other side" and for the wind to "let me ride". The song paints a picture of someone who is searching for something, perhaps a sense of freedom or a way to leave their troubles behind.

The chorus of the song is repeated several times throughout, with the singer asking to be taken to the other side and for the wind to carry him away. The lyrics suggest a desire to escape from the struggles of life and find a new beginning. The use of imagery, such as the river and the cold wind, adds to the feeling of being lost and in search of something more.

Overall, The Other Side is a powerful and thought-provoking song that speaks to the human experience of struggle and the desire for something more. It is a reminder that sometimes we need to let go and let the wind carry us to new places.

"Loud on the Western shore, you're no longer brave"
You used to be scared, but now you are bravely living your life out loud
Think you missed this one
More than once
Significant I think that he ended the song with "you are no longer brave".
Think it was easy for him to have been brave previously because he had nothing to lose as he also points out in What would I've become. He does now and that's changed him
