You Ain't Gone
Sam Grow Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Finally woke up this mornin′ instead of sleepin' till noon
Climbed into the shower saw your old shampoo
Your hairbrush and makeup still live by the sink
You wanted to leave me but you′re still in this place
Yeah

We're over... But I still want you to come over
There's no such thing as closure
When only one of us wants to move on
You ain′t here but you ain′t gone
No, you ain't gone

Got that bottle of wine we didn′t get to get through
'Cuz we raced down the hallway and wrecked up this bedroom
Lipstick stains on my pillow, my sheets smell like you
Yeah, I′m going through this while you say we're through

We′re over... But I still want you to come over
There's no such thing as closure
When only one of us wants to move on
You ain't here but you ain′t gone
You ain′t gone

I'm still waitin′ on your lonely text sayin that you miss me
Why aren't you hatin′ all of this how could you forget me
Yeah, you let us go so quick... You made it look easy to do
Ooooh yeah

We're over... But I still want you to come over
There′s no such thing as closure
When only one of us wants to move on
You ain't here but you ain't gone
You ain′t gone

Oh, you ain′t gone... Mmmm

Overall Meaning

The song "You Ain't Gone" by Sam Grow is a heartfelt ballad about a man who is struggling to come to terms with the fact that his relationship has ended. The song starts with the singer waking up in the morning and finding evidence of his ex-girlfriend still in his apartment. He goes on to reflect on the memories they shared, including the wine they never had a chance to finish and the stains she left on his pillows. He reveals his innermost feelings, admitting that even though the relationship is over, he still longs for her to come back to him. He is hoping for a text message or any sign that she misses him as much as he misses her.

The lyrics capture the intense emotions that come with a relationship breakup. It can be difficult to move on when only one person in the relationship is ready to do so. The singer is struggling to accept the end of the relationship and the absence of his partner, which is why he keeps her things and can still smell her scent in his apartment. He longs for her to come back, even though he knows that it's unlikely. The lyrics are a heartfelt plea for closure, even though he knows that he'll never get it.

Overall, "You Ain't Gone" is a beautifully written song that captures the pain and loss that come with the end of a relationship, and it's clear that Sam Grow has a talent for writing moving and relatable lyrics.

OMG. I’m in tears.😭 We lost my Dad in January & this poor guy reminds me of my Mom. 💔 Amazing song & video Sam. You never disappoint!!

We lost my grandmother last year. She was 91. My step grandfather is exactly like this! He cries eating apple sauce because it reminds him of her. We miss her so much. Life hasn’t been the same without her here 💔

I am always in constant fear I will outlive my Wife and we've been married 33 years. We both have medical issues BTW. This song and video really hits home hard that I need to make every single moment that presents itself count NOW without care for what could happen, I need to be what happens now with her and nothing else. That is what I want her to remember as she leaves this world waiting on me in the next...I love you Sheryl

It's a day later after I wrote my last comment. I have thought about this and the meaning of this video so much now. I want to cherish every moment. She has taken care of me in countless ways. Those are my memories as same as the video. This is why it struck me so hard. She goes to bed before I do because of our jobs and I am going to change when I go to bed to make sure be with her even if I lie awake for hours on end silent just to let her know I am there beside her. I will reach for her hand. I want her to know she is the most important thought in my life. I love you Squirrel!
