Harbour Lights
Sammy Kaye Lyrics

They only told me we were parting
The same old harbor lights that once brought you to me
I watched the harbor lights
How could I help if tears were starting
Goodbye to tender nights beside the silv'ry sea
I long to hold you near and kiss you just once more
Now I know lonely nights
For all the while my heart is whisp'ring
Some other harbor lights will steal your love from me
I long to hold you near and kiss you just once more
But you were on the ship and I was on the shore
Now I know lonely nights
For all the while my heart is whisp'ring
Some other harbor lights will steal your love from me
The lyrics of Sammy Kaye's "Harbour Lights" depicts a story of a man who watches his loved one sail away on a ship from the harbor. The harbor lights are a reminder of the love that they shared and the moments they spent together by the sea. The man is torn between his feelings of longing to be with the person he loves and his acceptance that they must part ways. He is resigned to the fact that their love story must come to an end.
The singer of the song is devastated and heartbroken over the fact that his lover is leaving him. He can't help but cry, knowing that the ship is separating him from his beloved, and that he will be left alone with his thoughts of her. The lyrics "the same old harbor lights that once brought you to me" tells us that the harbor lights once brought them together, but now they symbolize their separation. The song's message reveals the pain and grief that comes with a love that has to end, as the singer acknowledges that "some other harbor lights will steal your love from me."
