The Gypsy
Sammy Kaye Lyrics

In a quaint caravan
There's a lady they call the gypsy
She can look in the future
And drive away all your fears
Everything will come right
She could tell at a glance
That my heart was so full of tears
She looked at my hand and told me
My lover was always true
And yet in my heart I knew, dear
Somebody else was kissing you
But I'll go there again
'Cause I want to believe the gypsy
That my lover is true
And will come back to me some day
In Sammy Kaye's song "The Gypsy," the singer describes a lady whom they call the gypsy, who lives in a small caravan. The gypsy has the power to look into the future and can alleviate all of one's fears. According to the singer, if one believes in the power of the gypsy, everything eventually works out, and all anxieties will disappear. When the singer consulted with the gypsy, she informed them that their lover was faithful. However, the singer knows deep down that their lover is not loyal and is being unfaithful. Despite this knowledge, the singer longs to believe the gypsy and continues to seek her guidance in the hope that their lover will someday return to them.
The lyrics of "The Gypsy" illustrate the power of belief, even in the face of reality. The singer understands that the gypsy's words are not true, yet they still believe in her mystical powers. The song highlights the common desire for hope and the comfort gained from the belief in something greater than ourselves. Although the singer seeks counsel from the gypsy, the song speaks to the human desire to have faith in something beyond our control.
