SARAH BLACKWOOD grew up listening to her father’s rock and roll record collection. When she was twelve years old, her father handed her an acoustic guitar, taught her the basics and the rest, as they say, is history. Her style is influenced by old country and rock music. She’s a sweetheart with an acoustic guitar singing about love, demons she has faced, and different times in her life that have brought her down. These moments faced picked her up and made her create the songs what they are today. Also known as the front-woman for The Creepshow, Sarah has toured all across the world and has honed her live show to an exact and heartwarming science.
Picking up where “Way Back Home” left off, Sarah Blackwood’s sophomore solo album “Wasting Time” is an intensely personal collection of beautifully-crafted, roots country songs that also touches on elements of gospel, pop and soul. Where her debut was a stripped down, raw acoustic album, “Wasting Time” raises the bar by adding an incredibly talented roster of players, friends and family. Sarah’s one-man band Daniel Flamm (Heartbreak Engines, Sewer Rats) came in from Germany to add vocals, lead guitar, banjo and piano. Producer Gianni Luminati lends a hand with percussion, ukulele, mandolin and bass. Other guest musicians include brother Ian Blackwood, father Mike Blackwood, bandmate Sean “Sickboy” McNab and Lee Williamson on lapsteel.
“Wasting Time” showcases Sarah Blackwood’s undeniably passionate and sincerely honest songwriting style that is as touching as it is inspiring.
What the press is saying:
“This is a solid record, one of stark, solitary power. Blackwood excels at writing songs that while infused with pathos, aren't downers, and those that speak to universal experiences without seeming trite.” – The Hour
“…all great tracks on an album of acoustic gems.” Toronto Music Scene
“There’s an untouched feeling to Way Back Home in that it sounds at time like a collection of homemade demos, but really its more like an old, faded photograph capturing Blackwood and her emotions in the rawest form.” – Vue Weekly
Coming Home

My heart is coming home
Took a ride with a broken heart
We spilled our blood along the street
And every night when I lay down my head
I let that heartbreak grab ahold of me
And in that time we learn to heal
Never know it all but surely figure out
That is just the way life's meant to be
And I know, this time I know
My heart is coming home
Yea I know this time I know
My heart is coming home
Those walls are built so solid made of stone
But you did catch me at a glance
You looked at me held my hand and said
"my darling, on us won't you take a chance?"
"well I can't promise you forever " I said
"don't wanna be your everything"
But now at night when I lay down my head
It's you my boy I got you in my dreams
And I know, this time I know
My heart is coming home
Yea I know, this time I know
My heart is coming home
Tryin' not to worry about what tomorrow brings
Whether it'll work ourt right or wrong or anything
No matter what my darling we still make mistakes
When it comes to anything perfect don't exist
And I know, this time I know
My heart is coming home
And I know, this time I know
My heart is coming home
And I know, this time I know
My heart is coming home
And I know, this time I know
My heart is coming home
The lyrics to Sarah Blackwood's song “Coming Home” reflect the idea of personal growth and the pursuit of finding a safe haven, a home. The opening lines, “Know, this time I know / My heart is coming home,” convey a sense of relief and resolve. This statement highlights that the singer has finally found the courage and strength to return home; the place that offers solace, comfort, and acceptance. The chorus emphasizes this idea, repeating “My heart is coming home” four times. This reinforces the singer's desire to settle down and let go of the past.
The second verse, "Those walls are built so solid made of stone / But you did catch me at a glance," is about the singer’s fear of commitment and vulnerability. Her heart has been wounded, and she has taken refuge in a relationship that feels safe. However, she is still afraid of what the future holds. But, there is a turning point when her partner reassures her that she can take a chance on them, and this feeling of safety leads her to open up to the possibility of love once again.
The final verse expresses a belief that personal growth is a journey, not a destination. The lines "Tryin' not to worry about what tomorrow brings / Whether it'll work out right or wrong or anything / No matter what my darling we still make mistakes / When it comes to anything perfect don't exist" highlight the understanding that there will always be ups and downs in relationships, but that growth comes from these experiences. This verse leaves listeners with a sense of hope for the singer's future and the notion that love can help people find their way home.

Know, this time I know
I am currently certain
My heart is coming home
I will finally feel content
Took a ride with a broken heart

We spilled our blood along the street

And every night when I lay down my head
My negative feelings remained with me
I let that heartbreak grab ahold of me
I allowed myself to be consumed by pain
We ain't got nothing but time on our side
I have enough time to heal
And in that time we learn to heal
With time, I will recover
Never know it all but surely figure out
I will learn through the process
That is just the way life's meant to be
Life is unpredictable and uncontrollable
Those walls are built so solid made of stone
I had been emotionally guarded
But you did catch me at a glance
I connected with someone quickly

"my darling, on us won't you take a chance?"
You asked me to take a risk with you
"Well I can't promise you forever" I said
