Ice Cream
Sarah McLachlan Lyrics

Is better than ice cream
Better than anything else that I've tried
And your love
Is better than ice cream
Everyone here knows how to fight
And it's a long way down
It's a long way
Down to the place where we started from
Your love
Is better than chocolate
Better than anything else that I've tried
Oh, love is better than chocolate
Everyone here knows how to cry
It's a long way down
It's a long way down
It's a long way
Down to the place where we started from
In Sarah McLachlan's song "Ice Cream," the lyrics describe the beauty and power of love. The comparison is made between different types of indulgences, such as ice cream and chocolate, but ultimately the message is about the superiority of love. The refrain repeats the phrase "your love is better than ice cream" and "better than chocolate," emphasizing the blissful feeling that love can provide. McLachlan contrasts this feeling of happiness with the acknowledgment that "everyone here knows how to fight" and "knows how to cry," referencing the struggles that come with relationships.
The line "it's a long way down to the place where we started from" represents the difficulties of maintaining a relationship over time. No matter how strong the love may be, there are always obstacles and challenges that can lead to the end of the relationship. In the end, the trials and tribulations are worth it because of the beautiful feeling that love provides.

I think Sarah is the perfect woman. Not only is she bright, articulate, and gifted; but she is even physically beautiful. This song is humorous, but you can feel the depth of the love that went into composing it. A true gem! Rock on, Sarah.

My wife and I chose this for our First Dance at our wedding, almost 20 years ago. It says everything, it couldn’t be improved; it’s perfect! Thank you, Sarah ❤️

Saw her do this many many years ago at Lilleth Fair and just loved it. It's so unusual - a kind of child's song with an adult emotion
