Winter Wonderland
Sarah McLachlan Lyrics

In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight
We're happy tonight
Walking in a winter wonderland
Gone away is the bluebird
Here to stay is a new bird
As we go along
Walking in a winter wonderland
In the meadow we can build a snowman
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say, "are you married?"
We'll say, "no, man"
But you can do the job
When you're in town
Later on, we'll conspire
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid
The plans that we've made
Walking in a winter wonderland
Gone away is the bluebird
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song
As we go along
Walking in a winter wonderland
In the meadow we can build a snowman
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman
Until the other kids knock him down
When it snows, ain't it thrilling
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way
Walking in a winter wonderland
The lyrics of Sarah McLachlan's "Winter Wonderland" are a picturesque depiction of the joys of winter. The song begins with the sound of sleigh bells ringing, indicating the arrival of winter. The first and second lines of the song describe the environment in which the singer is walking. The snow glistening and the lane are particularly emphasized, creating a beautiful and tranquil atmosphere. The line “We're happy tonight” indicates the sense of joy winter brings, which is further highlighted in the phrase “Walking in a winter wonderland.”
The third and fourth lines of the song introduce the new bird while the old bluebird has gone away. The new bird singing a love song is an added indication of the happiness that winter brings. As the singer walks in the meadow, a snowman becomes visible, and the singer imagines it to be Parson Brown, who asks them if they’re married. The singer's reply is playful, creating a fun and exciting environment. The fifth stanza shows the singer dreaming by the fire with a sense of bravery, indicating that they are ready to take on the challenges of winter.
Overall, the lyrics of "Winter Wonderland" create a sense of joy, happiness, and excitement about winter. McLachlan's simple yet imaginative lyrics give the listener the chance to visualize what a winter wonderland would look and feel like.
