Emerging from the rubble of several outfits (most notably Salvation, Slik, Zones and PVC2, the latter featuring Midge Ure on guitar) Science saw Scotsmen Billy McIsaac and Kenny Hyslop take a turn for the futuristic: synthesizers, minimal and what have you. Two singles followed: 'Tokyo' and 'Look Don't Touch', both in 1980. Both failed to chart and Science disbanded. McIsaac pursued a solo career; Hyslop briefly played in Simple Minds.

2. Science consist of three solo artist and Science Magazine's podcast. "Fauxhead the Alchemist", "Ill-Literate" and "The Murphy Brown Solo Show". Their music is noise/experimental at its core.

Ended up reading more about Henri Dunant. Found this quote in his book A Memory of Solferino:

"The state of mind in Europe combines with many other symptoms to indicate the prospect of future wars, the avoidance of which, sooner or later, seems hardly possible".

He knew coming up with a message like "let's stop war" would not be sufficient, so he instead used the message "we should care for injured combatants" while describing in excruciating detail how awful that is. And that message grew into so much more.

Brilliant guy. First Nobel Peace Prize winner too.

From what I’ve seen of the world, the conventions stand as principles as opposed to the rules of war. It seems very much that it only takes one small violation to justify the other sides to make violations. They’re good principles to aim at though

Right. It's sad seeing everyone belittling it, like, can they come up with a better idea? International conventions and protocols are incredibly useful to determine war crimes which can be used AFTER the war has ended to prove who is guilty. It serves as a preventive means.

Saying the geneva convention is useless is like saying criminal law against murder is useless just because murder still happens.

The difference being, no amount of murderers trying to make it okay to murder is likely to change their home country into a state where it is legal or even encouraged to murder, whereas theoretically the winner of a world war could be the side that wants to encourage war crimes and would thus ignore or even forcefully remove the geneva convention.

People often forget that the Geneva Conventions are just countries' commitment towards not doing or using something.

It's not inherently binding since there is no centralized organization to enforce it + most major military around the world ignore them anyway. Som sort of loose regulations/recognition of something is better than no commitment at all

Sorry mate. It is called "Military Aggression" from Indonesian perspective. Indonesia (Or Dutch Indies if you want to call it) already declared independence in Dutch and Japanese absence. And by 1949 we already get our sovereign status. How do you "defending territory" from people inside that territory anyway?

It's kind of an outdated piece of legislation. It's created for conflict between European powers and country from European origin like Canada, Australia and the US as an example. Power's that can have a common ground and respect the convention with reciprocity. But when you fight states or pseudo-states like some third-world country's, the Taliban or Daesh, they don't play by the rules and should be excluded from the protection of the convention. No reciprocity, no convention: it's pretty simple. If you play nasty, we will play mean too.
