Scooch won a contest on the BBC Saturday Morning show Live & Kicking in 1999. They competed against a boyband to have their single released. Even though the bands were already formed, this contest was unique as it pre-dated the format of the first music talent reality show, ITV's Popstars in 2000, where the band Hear’Say was created from the show.
During the height of their short-lived popularity, Scooch supported 5ive and B*Witched on their arena tours, as well as appearing on many popular music and children's programmes at the time. They also toured around many primary schools in order to gain a fan base... a strange aproach, that did not really work!
In September 2000, EMI-Parlophone terminated their contract after four top 30 hits in the UK singles chart. The group decided against seeking renewal elsewhere. They got back together in January 2004 to perform at the London nightclub G-A-Y's Gone But Not Forgotten night. The success of this prompted the band to do a tour of several gay venues and events around the country.
The Groups Single Chart Record:
"When My Baby" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #29, October 1999
"More Than I Needed To Know" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #5, Japan Singles Chart Peak Position #1, January 2000
"The Best Is Yet To Come" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #12, April 2000
"For Sure" - UK Singles Chart Peak Position #15, July 2000
The Groups most successful song 'More than I Needed To Know' became so popular in Japan it was featured on a video game over there called 'DDRMAX2: Dance Dance Revolution 7thMIX.'
In 2006, Russ appeared in the Channel 4 and E4 TV show Boys Will Be Girls, where three ex-popstar men formed a new girl band and attempted to pass as women.
On 28 February 2007, the BBC announced that Scooch have reformed to perform one of the entries in the fourth Making Your Mind Up programme. This was broadcast on BBC One on 17 March 2007. Scooch's song, Flying The Flag (For You) is a cheeky pop song about flying, with the band playing the roles of airline cabin crew, much like Sestre did for Slovenia in Eurovision 2002.
Scooch competed against Brian Harvey, Liz McClarnon, Hawkins & Brown, Big Brovaz and newcomer Cyndi. They won and represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest final on Saturday 12 May 2007 in the Finnish capital, Helsinki. Unfortunately, on the night, they came last but one which sparked major controversy in the UK as to how such a popular song wasn't voted for across Europe.
Scooch's CD's from the past have became hugely popular . Their Album 'Four Sure' is selling for over £20 on internet bidding website eBay

You put the rhythm in my feet
I look at you and it all makes sense
Breaking down all my defense
You put the heart into my soul
And let the music take control
When you′re dancing next to me
And my heart just skips a beat
And I lose myself completely
From my head down to my feet
When my baby dances with me
Heart just skips a beat
Lose myself completely
Head down to my feet (oh, when my baby)
Baby dances with me
You put the color in my life
When everything was black and white
You said that we were meant to be
You just can't fight the chemistry
In perfect rhythm on the floor
Soulmates now and evermore
You said, "Let′s dance," I said, "I will"
More and more the time stood still
And my heart just skips a beat
And I lose myself completely
From my head down to my feet
When my baby dances with me
Heart just skips a beat (oh, when my baby)
Lose myself completely
Head down to my feet (oh, when my baby)
Baby dances with me
You put the heart into my soul
And let the music take control
When you're dancing next to me
Everything comes naturally
And my heart just skips a beat
And I lose myself completely
From my head down to my feet
When my baby dances with me
Heart just skips a beat (oh, when my baby)
Lose myself completely
Head down to my feet (oh, when my baby)
Baby dances with me
And my heart just skips a beat
And I lose myself completely
From my head down to my feet
When my baby dances with me
And my heart just skips a beat
And I lose myself completely
From my head down to my feet
When my baby dances with me...
The song "When My Baby" by Scooch is a love song that expresses the joy and excitement of dancing with someone special. The lyrics describe the transformative effect that dancing with the singer's partner has on their life, bringing color, rhythm, and joy to their world. The singer emphasizes the deep connection they have with their partner, and the way that their dance moves seem to come naturally, as if they were meant to be together.
The lyrics paint a picture of a couple who are soulmates, perfectly in sync with each other on the dance floor. The singer is taken by how easy it is to lose themselves in the moment when they are dancing with their partner, feeling their heart skip a beat and becoming completely lost in the music. The lyrics suggest that dancing with their partner is a way for the singer to feel truly alive, heightening their senses and filling them with an overwhelming sense of joy and connection.
