The one you sold to fool the world
You lost your self-esteem along the way
Yeah
Good god your comin' up with reasons
Good god your dragging it out
Good god its the changing of the seasons
So follow me down
And just fake it if your out of direction
Fake it if you don't belong
Fake it if you feel like a infection
Woah your such a fuckin' hypocrite
And you should know that the lies wont hide your falls
No sense in hiding all of yours
You gave up on your dreams along the way
Yeah
Good god your comin' up with reasons
Good god your dragging it out
Good god its the changing of the seasons
I feel so raped
So follow me down
And just fake it if your out of direction
Fake it if you don't belong
Fake it if you feel like a infection
Woah your such a fuckin' hypocrite
Whoah whoah
I can fake with the best of anyone
I can fake with the best of em all
I can fake with the best of anyone
I can fake it all
Who's to know if your soul will fade at all
The one you sold to fool the world
You lost your self-esteem along the way
Yeah
Good god your comin' up with reasons
Good god your dragging it out
Good god its the changing of the seasons
I feel so raped
So follow me down
And just fake it if your out of direction
Fake it if you don't belong
Fake it if you feel like a infection
Woah your such a fuckin' hypocrite
Fake it if your out of direction
Fake it if you don't belong
Fake it if you feel like a infection
Woah your such a fuckin' hypocrite
Seether's "Fake It" is a song about playing a role or wearing a mask to fit in with the society that we live in. The singer has sold out their soul to please the world and in the process, they have lost their self-respect and dignity. The singer seems to be frustrated with the singer and feels that they are being hypocritical by pretending to be someone they are not. The song title suggests that the singer is faking their identity to cover up their real selves, and in doing so, they might be deceiving themselves and others around them.
The song's first few lines question the nature of the soul and whether it fades away with time. The singer has sold their soul to fool the world, and in the process, they have lost their self-esteem along the way. The chorus "And just fake it if you’re out of direction, fake it if you don't belong, fake it if you feel like an infection, woah, you're such a fu*king hypocrite" suggests that pretending to be someone else can sometimes be the only way to fit in or avoid being rejected by society.
The last verse of the song seems to suggest that the singer is not alone and that the singer recognizes that they too can play the role of someone who they are not. In a sense, the song is a call to all of us who sometimes feel like we need to pretend to be someone else to fit in or gain acceptance from others.

This song reflects today's society just too good.
It's scary.
EDIT: Because I commented this very comment twice, once 2 years ago (this one), and another one 4 years ago + some of the replies:
As is evident by the fact that I commented this very comment twice, with 2 years apart - I do realize this song is kind of timeless from the perspective of society.
However, I don't think it's been ever that strong with Social Media being a thing today.
Also, Seether is my 'depression-at-night' go-to band.
And this thought just randomly hit me (twice) lol
So, I just felt like pointing this out (twice...)
