The Matricide
Serenity Lyrics

I feel the darkness,
You keep sneaking into private affairs
I guess what I have to do,
For my own defense,
I must get my mother's voice
Reduced to silence
What an irony I witness,
Those not to trust: my family, can be the worst
Watch your back and the water in your wine, senators
By the blade or the poison you will die, betrayers!
Don't forget that this empire is mine,
The Matricide to show: treason makes me pity no one
I show no remorse to Rome,
Weakness is sin,
They shall never doubt my power to grow
When the walls no longer hide
Their conspiracy,
I find nothing else to say
"Dead men tell no tales"
You cannot hide your secrets
They turn into fear, you should better run away
Watch your back and the water in your wine, senators
By the blade or the poison you will die, betrayers!
Don't forget that this empire is mine,
The Matricide to show: treason makes me pity no one
Suspicion made your weary heart
Confuse the truth with the lies
Blinded by hate from the start
You led your fate to your demise
Watch your back and the water in your wine, senators
By the blade or the poison you will die, betrayers!
Don't forget that this empire is mine,
The Matricide to show: treason makes me pity no one
Watch your back and the water in your wine, senators
By the blade or the poison you will die, betrayers!
Don't forget that this empire is mine,
The Matricide to show: treason makes me pity no one
The lyrics of Serenity's song "The Matricide" tell the story of a powerful ruler who has become disillusioned with those around her. She cannot trust her family and senators who have betrayed her. She decides to take matters into her own hands and silences her own mother's voice to protect herself. The character in the song is ruthless, showing no remorse for her actions and determined to maintain her power and control over Rome. The chorus drives home the message that anyone who crosses her will meet a brutal end by blade or poison, and that she has no pity for those who commit treason.
The lyrics explore themes of betrayal, power, and paranoia. The ruler in the song has become isolated and suspicious of those around her, leading her to take drastic measures to protect herself. The lyrics also touch on the concept of the Matricide, the killing of one's own mother, which is a taboo act that has been associated with power struggles throughout history.

I dunno, it's hard to say that any song on this album is truly the best. They're all too good, it's like picking the best song on a Sabaton album... Or a Gloryhammer album.
