The original members were Richard Fielding and Andrew Wright, and were soon joined by Tom Ellard. This later changed to Garry Bradbury, Paul Deering, and Tom Ellard; Ellard has been the only one to remain throughout the group's career, with changing lineups throughout its two and a half decades of existence, later working mainly with Stephen Jones. Robert Racic was an integral part of the band during the late eighties/early nineties.
Severed Heads performed a final concert in Sydney in January 2010. Tom Ellard uploaded a farewell video of Sevs in Space to Youtube, which may be considered as a requiem of sorts.
In early 2008, Ellard added the following text to the bottom of the official site's front page, "Severed Heads do not have a MySpace page. It is a fake. The band is dead,". (www.sevcom.com).

Severed Heads Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
(Sweetheart) it is due to you
(Sweetheart) it has come the day that my song has flown away
(Sweetheart) it has come that day
Drive--the past like a highway
Drive--Stop at the halfway
Drive--see all the paths that I could have chosen
There are cars on fire and there is smoke on the road and...
(Sweetheart) it is due to you that my soul has swung so low...
The lyrics to Severed Heads' "Finder" are a bittersweet reflection on the impact someone can have on our lives. The repeated use of "Sweetheart" suggests that the song is addressed to a romantic partner, and the first two lines explain that this person has caused the singer's soul to "swing so low." This suggests that they have brought a sense of sadness or despair into the singer's life. The next two lines, "it has come the day that my song has flown away / (Sweetheart) it has come that day" suggest that the singer has lost their ability to express themselves through music, which could be a metaphorical way of saying that they have lost their creativity or sense of purpose.
The next section of the song is a call to action - "Drive--the past like a highway / Drive--Stop at the halfway / Drive--see all the paths that I could have chosen." This is a clear indication that the singer is ready to move on from their current situation, and is looking for a way to explore new opportunities. However, the final lines of the song are still somewhat bleak - "There are cars on fire and there is smoke on the road and... / There are cars on fire. Fire." This could suggest that the singer is aware of the risks involved in making a change, and is nervous about the possible consequences.
