Good Luck Charm
Shades Apart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Picture out the window is razor sharp
Horizontal lines stretch out so far
Reach out for a hand in the dark

Watching all the colors drifting by
Look forever down that mountainside
Feel the cool air rise off the ground
I decide what is right or wrong
I decide what can pass or fail
I rely on my good luck charm

Stepping over oceans
Walk across the sky
Universe is shrinking
Down to size
Try to dissolve into space

No one is deceitful
Nothing untrue
Ignoring what is certain
Believe a lie
Conscience can escape from inside

Imaginary friends are stopping by

Talking aspirations of past lives
Faces seem familiar and kind

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Good Luck Charm describe a moment of clarity and sharpness in the world outside the window. The singer reaches out for someone to help navigate this view and the colors that are drifting by - symbolizing the myriad of choices and paths to take. However, the singer asserts their independence by claiming the power to decide what is right or wrong and what can pass or fail. The good luck charm is referred to as a source of support and reassurance in this decision-making process.

For 1993, these melodies and reefs are awesome, kind of ahead of other ''famous'' bands from that very same year.. :D

@James-if3kc

This is where they started to sound better, ultimately culminating in 1999 with their "Eyewitness" album, one of the catchiest pop/rock albums of all time.

233Runner I found it used on Amazon so got it. Pretty good. I then listened to everything of theirs after that lol. So many great tunes!

@TheSpaceman30

I saw them playing live i guess like 3 times on their European tour in 90's. It was awesome. It sounded exactly the same as on the record. I was really impressed! 👍🏻🎸🎶
