1, Shaggy (born October 22, 1969, in Kingston, Jamaica as Orville Richard Burrell), is a Jamaican reggae artist who takes his nickname from his shaggy hair. He is especially notable for his distinctive sub-baritone voice.
His family immigrated to the United States and they settled in the neighborhood of Flatbush, Brooklyn, located in New York City, New York, USA.
In 1988, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served during Operation Desert Storm during the Persian Gulf War.
On his return from Iraq, he decided to pursue his music career and his first hit in 1993: "Oh Carolina", was a dancehall re-make of a ska hit by the Folkes Brothers. The same year, Shaggy appeared on Kenny Dope's hip hop album "The Unreleased Project". He worked together with producers such as Sting Intl., Don One (who cut his first track), Lloyd 'Spiderman' Campbell and Robert Livingston. He had further big hits, including "Boombastic" in 1995.
He then had a major comeback in 2001, featuring worldwide number-one hit singles "It Wasn't Me" and "Angel," the latter of which was built around Merrilee Rush's 1968 hit "Angel of the Morning" (which was remade in 1981 by Juice Newton). The album Hot Shot, from which those cuts came, would hit number one on the Billboard 200.
However, his 2002 release Lucky Day, and the 2005 album Clothes Drop failed to match Hot Shot's success.
Shaggy performed the theme for Showtime (film), a 2002 movie.
2, Shaggy, a swedish rock/blues rock band from the 1970's. Released one album, "Lessons for beginners"

The opening lines of the song 'Luv Me Up' by Shaggy, "Rest in peace Nico Demus, yuh originate dem style yah / Flava di king, fi love is all I bring" pays homage to Nico Demus, the Jamaican DJ who worked in tandem with Shaggy to popularize the ragga music style in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Shaggy asserts that his love is all he brings to his significant other, and he urges Mr. Lover to keep rocking and singing. Shaggy asserts that he knows how to do everything with perfect timing, and women love him for it. In the chorus, Shaggy speaks about how his woman loves him up and takes the weight off his shoulders when she hugs him, throwing his troubles out the window while rubbing him up. She treats him like a King, a peasant treated royally, and he feels he is on cloud nine.
In the second verse, Shaggy asserts that his heart belongs to his woman, someone who is not just perfect but outstanding, taking care of him and showing him the path. He praises her for knowing where to start and relieves him of stress by sharing his moments of pain with her. In the third verse, Shaggy declares that his woman's love is like a tailor-made design, and it overwhelms him divinely. He thanks his lucky stars that she is a Heaven sent woman who treats him right, lighting his darkness and holding his light.
Interestingly, the song's lyrics demonstrate intimacy and respect for a woman, something unusual for a dancehall reggae artist like Shaggy. The song heavily samples the Black Eyed Peas' "Where Is the Love?," including the music video, lyrics, and song title. The video shows Shaggy's love interest as a powerful woman, highly respectful of her man. The song was released in 2011 as part of Shaggy's album called 'Summer in Kingston.' It is a mix of reggae and dance-pop music styles, with a strong Jamaican influence. Shaggy is a multilingual singer and, in the song "Luv Me Up," sing parts of the chorus in Spanish. The song peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Reggae Digital Song Sales chart in 2011. In 2020, the song's music video had over 13 million views on YouTube, demonstrating its lasting power. Shaggy collaborated with Phillip Lawrence and producer Shaun Pizzonia, also known as Sting International, on the song.
