Shankar recorded an album of his fusion compositions entitled Uplift, which was premiered on Amma’s 2009 US tour. Through benefit concerts and sales of the CD, he raised several thousand dollars, which was put towards a charity helping farmers in Southern India.

Dhua dhua...
Gila gila...
Dhua dhua...
Ga ma pa dha ma pa ga ma saaa
Ga ma dha ri
Gila gila sa
Khoya hua sa
Behka hua sa
Humsafar se miltha yeh kinara
bhiga bhiga
Sagar se gehera yeh kinara
Ooo...
Sagar se gehera yeh kinara
O... Diwano jaisa chahe wo sagar
sunta hai lehero ki aahathein
Diwano jaisa chahe wo sagar
sunta hai lehero ki aahathein
sagar ki lehere jaise baje iktara
sajde mein uske hota hai kinara
Gila gila sa
Dhua dhua sa
Khoya hua sa
Behka hua sa
Humsafar se miltha yeh kinara
bhiga bhiga
Sagar se gehera yeh kinara
Ooo...
Sagar se gehera yeh kinara
Ooooo... sagar kinara jaise kanha aur radha
kanha bin radha kaise jiye
sagar kinara jaise kanha aur radha
kanha bin radha kaise jiye
kanha se radha, radha se kanha
donno ki preet chamke banke ik tara
Gila gila sa
Dhua dhua sa
Khoya hua sa
Behka hua sa
Humsafar se miltha yeh kinara
bhiga bhiga
Sagar se gehera yeh kinara
Ooo...
Sagar se gehera yeh kinara
Kinara
Sagar se gehera yeh kinara
Kinara
Sagar se gehera yeh kinara
Kinara
The lyrics of Shankar Tucker’s song Kinara are about a profound and pure love that understands the depths of the ocean and the waves. The words "Gila gila" and "Dhua dhua" create a sense of fluidity and motion, emphasizing the theme of the ocean and the waves. The song expresses the connection between a lover and their companion, where the lover is like the ocean, and their beloved is the shore. The lyrics compare this love to that of Kanha and Radha and express a sense of devotion and mutual dependence. The line "Sagar ki lehere jaise bajey iktara, sajde mein uske hota hai kinara" depicts the idea that, like the music of an iktara, the love shared between two people is a sacred connection that can guide them through life's challenges.
Overall, the song Kinara is a poetic expression of the depth and beauty of unconditional love. It leaves the listener with a sense of longing and a deeper appreciation of the power of love.
Line by Line Meaning
Gila gila...
The song opens with repeating lines of 'Gila gila' and 'Dhua dhua', which are expressive words that do not have a specific meaning. The lines are repeated to set the mood for the song.
Ga ma pa dha ma pa ga ma saaa
This line is an instrumental introduction to the song where the musician Shankar Tucker plays the melody on his instrument.
Ga ma dha ri
Again, another instrumental melody is played after the introductory line.
Khoya hua sa, Behka hua sa, Gila gila sa, Dhua dhua sa
These lines describe the state of the kinara, which is lost, intoxicated, wet, and smoky. These are poetic expressions that represent the kinara as a romantic character struggling to find its way.
Humsafar se miltha yeh kinara bhiga bhiga
The kinara finds its companion, the shore, and it embraces it with wetness. The line metaphorically represents the idea of love, where the kinara is the lover and the shore is the beloved.
Sagar se gehera yeh kinara
The kinara is deep like the ocean and has many hidden secrets and mysteries attached to it. The line creates a romantic and mysterious image of the kinara.
O... Diwano jaisa chahe wo sagar sunta hai lehero ki aahathein
The line means that the ocean (sagar) listens to the tales of lovers (diwano) by hearing the sound of the waves (lehro ki aahathein) hitting the shore. It's a lovely metaphor for the idea that the sea and the shore hold the secrets of everyone who loves.
Sagar ki lehere jaise baje iktara sajde mein uske hota hai kinara
The sound of the waves (sagar ki lehere), which hits the shore like a musical instrument (iktara), takes the kinara into a state of surrender and devotion (sajde mein hota hai kinara). The line implies that the kinara is in love with the sea and its sound.
Ooooo... sagar kinara jaise kanha aur radha kanha bin radha kaise jiye
This line creates a parallel between the story of love between Lord Krishna (Kanha) and his beloved Radha and the relationship between the sea (sagar) and the shore (kinara). The line probes some philosophical questions about the nature of true love and happiness.
kanha se radha, radha se kanha, donno ki preet chamke banke ik tara
This line talks about the love and devotion between Kanha and Radha, and how their love brings them together like a shining star (iktara). The line is symbolic and represents the idea of true love which is selfless.
Kinara, Sagar se gehera yeh kinara
The final lines repeat the idea of the kinara being deep like the ocean and represents the vast depths of love and emotions that exists within the human heart. The lines end the song on a lovely romantic note signifying the greatness of love.
