As a clarinetist performing Hindustani classical music, he has shared the stage with such legendary artists as Zakir Hussain and Hariprasad Chaurasia.
Shankar currently studies with Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia in Mumbai, India. After graduating from New England Conservatory, he was awarded a grant by the Frank Huntington Beebe Fund to pursue his study of applying Hindustani music to the clarinet. While in India, he has performed at major venues in Mumbai, Chennai, and Pune, as well as the Taj Hotel in Hyderabad.
Shankarโs experience with classical western music includes performances in Boston at Symphony Hall, City Hall, and Jordan Hall, and the Fine Arts Center at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. At New England Conservatory, Shankar studied with Tom Martin of the Boston Symphony, sitarist Peter Row and percussionist Jerry Leake. While in school, both of Shankarโs ensembles, a classical woodwind quintet and an Indian Fusion group, were awarded โhonorsโ status by the Conservatory, a recognition of excellence given to only a few groups each year.
Shankar has toured with the spiritual leader and renowned humanitarian โAmmaโ Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, performing with her bhajan ensemble in 12 major cities across the US, including Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, Washington DC, Boston, Toronto, and New York City. While on tour with Amma, he had the opportunity to perform with David Balakrishnan of the Turtle Island String Quartet and study with saxophonist George Brooks. Shankar recorded an album of his fusion compositions entitled Uplift, which was premiered on Ammaโs 2009 US tour. Through benefit concerts and sales of the CD, he raised several thousand dollars, which was put towards a charity helping farmers in Southern India.

And iam caught in the rain
In the cold autumn rain
And iam caught in the rain
In the cold autumn rain
Marhami marhami
Si yeh hawayen
Muskurati huyi hai yeh fizayen
Thartharate huye patto ki baate
Aur woh beete huye lamho ki raate
Bheeni bheeni si.
Teri yaade bhi hai.
Hey yaa
Hey yaa
Ohh dildara
Hey yaa
Hey yaa
Dil banjaara
Hey yaa
Hey yaa
Ohh dildaara
Hey yaa
Hey yaa
Dil banjaara
And iam caught in the rain with you
And i wish i could say with you
How many days can we live this way
Till the rain carries us some way
Dhun kehti magar
Mujhko pata hai
Teri yeh ankahi
Bhi ek bayan hai
Yeh pal jo bhi hai
Usko jee le
Phir na lautenge
Woh pal kabhi yeh
Bheeni bheeni si.
Teri yaade bhi hai.
Hey yaa
Hey yaa
Ohh dildara
Hey yaa
Hey yaa
Dil banjaara
Hey yaa
Hey yaa
Ohh dildaara
Hey yaa
Hey yaa
Dil banjaara
And iam caught in the rain with you
And i wish i could say with you
How many days can we live this way
Till the rain carries us some way

The combination of Hindi and English is superb! At first I didn't want to hear English but the collaboration has something refreshing. It makes you realise how beautiful the world is when we combine our strengths and differences. Every language is beautiful and combining them in music has a unting element about it.
@adeep12341
agree with u english is a funny but nice language and should be promoted.
@divagoyal8393
How much more do you want to promote it? It is already the most spoken and understood language in the world
@nikhiljpopat
English is the third most spoken actually.
@NoobFAWannabe
Laura Bernay Indian-American here who loves both languages. What a wonderful comment, you captured the song's essence and vibes nicely. please ignore the random replies here which are obtuse to your actual message.
